29 November 2007

It's 3.30am. I have a colonosocopy tomorrow. I can't sleep and I'm freaked.

Also the only way to get through drinking that horrible stuff is to pretend to be Albus Dumbledore.

Can I have some good vibes, please?

best wishes, they tend to use a retrograde amnesiac (why couldn't I have used that as a screen name??) so you won't remember a thing.
Hoping all good things for you.

Wilder, do they really use milk on amnesia? I had no idea.

I need to get one of these as well, Fuzzbean. My dad died of colon cancer and I'm almost 40 (I've never had one). I'll need to talk to my GP.

Fuzzbean,
I know about 10 guys that have had the procedure and everyone of them said the anesthetic was so strong they just laid back for the procedure, got really happy, and woke up in recovery...they all said the high was the best part, no memories. As far as freaking over the results if that's what you meant, don't worry yourself with that. one day at a time man. Enjoy your legal buzz today.

I had my first colonosocopy a few years ago. The worst part of the procedure was drinking the stuff the day beforehand. Seriously. Although it was suggested I add Crystal Lite (lemonade) to the mix and I am glad I did.

The drugs are great. "Count down from 100." "100, 9..." and you are out. When you wake up it is like you had only blinked your eyes.

As for the results of the procedure, I will keep you in my thoughts. The actual procedure is nothing to worry about.

Good luck!

As you know, I had one on monday. Yep, they use propofol, so you don't remember a thing. Close your eyes, wake up in recovery, walk out of there 15 minutes later. Doesn't hurt, and you don't feel queasy or out of it at all. And they can tell you what they found (grossly, obviously not pathologically) immediately!

(For me, the worst part is taking off the band aid from the IV. I am super sensitive to that sort of pain and it took me two days to work up the courage to take it off. And no rip for me: my husband was laughing uncontrollably last night watching me painstakingly ease the stupid little thing off my arm.)

I would've ripped it off whilst you slept. I'm good like that.

I had a colonoscopy last year and really the worst part was doing the radiator flush beforehand. They gave me a gallon of the most ironically named product ever: Go Lytely. I could only get through about half of it. I was in the hospital so they wouldn't give me a flavored variety and denied request for a flavorant. Gahhh.

The colonoscopy itself? I remember the narcotic. I think the drugs they use are the ice cream you get if you eat all your Brussels sprouts.

Well, everyone else has been so reassuring and hilarious that I have only this to say:

I am sending you good vibes. I am vibing you up and down and all around. Uh, in a thoroughly platonic way.

We'll work on de-Platonizing it when you're less stressed.

And after I came down off the ceiling, you would have had to go get your nose reset.

Gah! Just thinking about pulling it off is setting my teeth on edge.

I take it you've never had a brazilian then, 'pode.

Actually, I have eej. But it was on a bet and I got $200 out of it.

Good good vibes! Best of luck, fuzz. Sounds like the procedure itself won't give you much to worry about, and I'm wishing you a clean bill o'health for after.

One co worker was so "sold" on regular colonoscopies, that he brought pictures!

Yeah, me too.

De-platonizing, mmmmm, Elsa :)

I just got back home. Apparently I've got gastritis, duodenitis, and colitis. Man, my GI tract is pissed at me. I can call about biopsies in a couple of days to see if they've been able to tell why and what kind.

Despite all the waiting (like three hours before I got a room!) it wasn't as terrible as I'd feared. The drugs are the good shit. I feel a bit woozy still but mostly okay. And I still love my doctor - she remembered that I was taking the GRE and asked about how I'd done!

Thanks, bunnies, for the hugs.
