28 November 2007

Brrrrrr! This is a shivering thread. [More:]I used to defy the elements. I'd go out in cold weather without a jacket or only a light jacket and do manly things like split wood for the fire. Now I'm 35, riding a desk and turning into a total wuss. I've been cold all day, since crawling out from beneath the covers. It may be I didn't sleep enough (likely), but I've just been freezing. It's also cold and overcast outside, all the leaves are down, so it just looks cold on top of actually being cold.

Getting old sucks.
Oh, I know. It was 52 degrees out when I got up.

I got home last night to a sign from the super on our building saying the heat was out. Wasn't terrible this morning (hot water held out), but oh, getting out of the shower was brisk. And my desk at work is by a poorly-insulated window. I'm going to work in the other lab this afternoon.

"from the super on our building"? Sigh.

My office is always freezing. Right now my fingers are so cold that I'm having trouble typing. I ordered yet another turtleneck sweater over my lunch break, since they are the only kind that keep me semi-warm.

I'm cold and I think I'm coming down with a cold. *sigh*

amro: fingerless gloves.

I've thought of that... It's my fingers that are coldest, though.

Was 25F on my walk to work this morning but it's up to 39F now and actually sunny.

Start wearing hats. Indoors. Really. (of course, I don't do this, but it really will help.) I found the need to keep my head warm when scuba diving.

I'd always freeze until I started wearing a hood all the time. I even wear one in the tropics. I still wear one even when people make fun of me - since the water is always colder than my body temperature, it helps me enjoy the dive when I'm not cold.

Maybe you could find a hat style that's wonderful for you, or start a fashion trend. It could be your signature piece.

You lose something like 25 - 30% of body heat out your neck, face and head. A toque and a scarf WILL make a diff.

It's not too bad here. I just got done raking leaves coatless and still broke a sweat.

But I rev hot, baby. It's got to be damn cold for me to complain. I've been known to run the car AC in Feb. if the sun's too bright.

...and not just drop the windows?
posted by PaxDigita 28 November | 14:35
Putting down the windows just gives the kids in the back a face full of cold air. I can turn the AC on so it blows right on me.

Currently 20c here (6.45 am) and supposed to reach 26c (~79F) today, but it's been relatively cold so far this summer and today is the first fully sunny morning I've seen a over a week, so I think it will go higher. I hate hot weather (except I like the longer summer days) and wish it was winter all year 'round.
