Silly question: Just how many registered members are there here at MetaChat? More than 1% the 60K at MetaFilter? I also wonder how the number of 'active participants' compares, though that would require some serious data analysis.[More:]
This is why I ask, and I'm trying not to be an ass about it, but probably failing.
The number of members is more than 1% but not a huge amount more. That is it's less than 10%. Jessamyn is right. Different communities act in different ways and need different tech solutions. One of those differences between us and metafilter is size.

I'd love to discuss this further but feel this isn't the right place for it.

Active participants? Ya got me there! I only have ten fingers. Well, eight if you're not counting my thumbs.

I'm registered over there, under a different name (because I wasn't as creative, then). But I very rarely tread on MetaFilter soil. Not that I don't enjoy some of the posts. Mainly because I have only a limited frame of time to enjoy my internet friends and I like to spend that time with all of you here.

Look at the names on the Wiki under "all bunnies great and small." A lot of those names never turn up as posters or commenters.

I think the active participation here is pretty tiny, web-community-wise. There are maybe several hundred fairly regular participants, maybe 100-200 varying daily participants -- that's just a gut-level guess, but in any case, it's a pretty intimate little room, here.

Geez, they're up to 60K members? My (not very) active account at MeFi is a 14K #, and I even have an old 5K username I forgot about for a few years. Wow.

Back when MeFi was somewhere around 20K - 30K members I was in the top ten contribution index. Now I'm nowhere near.

That's a creepy photo, BP. I like it.

And, as a data point, it would be interesting to know how many Bunnies there are. Idle curiosity, dontchaknow.

I agree with what meeks said. I'm registered there (different name), but spend most posts trying to help out in AskMe when I can. I cull nuggets from the blue and green like I would at a flea market. Sometimes I leave with nuttin'.
