The best pumpkin pie ever. [More:]For most of my life, I have seen nothing wrong with buying a can of pumpkin pie filling, dumping it into a pie shell, and calling that pumpkin pie. This year, just because, I bought a can of (and I admit it was because the can looks so cool) and followed the One-Pie pumpkinrecipe on the back.

Oh my God. It tasted the way pumpkin pie tastes in your imagination: redolent of spices, rich and sweet, earthy and autumnal. The pumpkin is good, but I'm convinced that the secret lies in the 1/8 cup of molasses in the recipe (I used blackstrap). That molasses flavor is so old-fashioned and strong that I think it put this pie over the top.
Yum. Did you make the crust yourself too?

(I will try this)

Pumpkin pie is pretty great but the way its texture and flavor interacts and plays with an overzealous heap of canned whipped cream is BLISS. If you can get over the ridicule you'll receive from family members and shamed scorn from the significant other, just disappear that pie in whipped cream. Oh yes.

I feel guilty, we served frozen pie. In fact, there were zero homemade desserts at my thanksgiving. A guest brought an AMAZING dutch caramel apple pie from a local bakery, and we had Sara Lee make the pumpkin.
No one complained, though. It's just my crazy need to make EVERYTHING FROM SCRATCH!

Every pumpkin pie, no matter how good, has been trumped by the sweet potato pie recipe from Cook's Illustrated. We don't even bother making pumpkin pie, because the sweet potato pie is perfection.

I still love pumpkin pie, and will eat it if served, but I just can't be bothered to put in the effort to make it myself when I could be making sweet potato pie instead.

Miko, thanks for sharing. It looks awesome.

I made the pumpkin gooey cakes, which are obscenely unhealthy. My mother made Key Lime cake, which was heavenly. My MIL burned her pecan pies. How sad is that? We still had a homemade cherry pie, my pumpkin cakes, a pumpkin sponge cake, ice cream, and homemade Baklava.

Burned pecan pie is a tragedy. Pecan pie is a challenge - you have to take it out just at the right time, before it looks set, otherwise it turns into hard candy. I did that a bunch of times before I figured it out. But man, do I love it.
