22 November 2007

happy thanksgiving! I am in Scotland, but I really want turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce for dinner later! Boo. Oh well. I am really thankful for a lot of stuff. What are you thankful for?[More:]

1) Other Half
2) Decent house, job etc
2.5) Awesome friends and colleagues
3) We're getting a kitten in the spring!
4) Cool podcast thing I'm taking over from Mr. Busy Job Guy at Holyrood
5) Of course my life, health and family.

I'm thankful for my family. We really do have a great life together. Keeping this family together is my biggest goal in life. My parents really, really fucked it up, and I'm determined to do better than they did.

I'm thankful for my health and for the health of the people I know. That's the biggest thing that most people take for granted.

I'm thankful for all the music I get to play and for the friends I've made.

I'm thankful for my adopted country. People here have been really great to me, on the whole. I still meet arseholes who want to hold me responsible for every atrocity America has ever committed (from The Trail of Tears all the way to McDonald's, Wal*Mart, Enron, Micro$oft, The Iraq War and the sub-prime market fiasco)... but I can almost always convince them that they're completely off-base. When I can't I chalk that up to General Stupidity and move on. Nothing has managed to dent my enthusiasm for living here.

I'm thankful that The Football is over.

Today, I'm (sadly) thankful that I finally sorted out a rather woolly VPN configuration issue in East Yorkshire. I know that seems silly, but it's been bugging me for MONTHS.

I'm also thankful for this place. Thanks for putting up with me.

Oh, Woo! Thankful for my husband, my health, my wonderful family, my amazing luck. I'm thankful for this nice place to live, (more than) enough to eat, and indoor plumbing (not that I've never had it - it just happens to be something I often think about, oddly). I'm thankful for metachat bunnies who keep me company most all times of the day or night when I need it, and the internet, generally. I'm thankful for books and the people who write them, music and the people who make it, and art and artists of all kinds. I'm thankful for all the amazing natural beauty in the world, and thankful for kindness wherever it exists.

I'm thankful that I am challenged every day and that I'm (slowly) learning to forgive myself when I screw up; that I live in a peaceful place; that I have a wonderful partner and the opportunity to create a family; for my health and that of my parents; for Europe; for friends; for the music I get to play.

(this is nice)

altolinguistic - do you have any songs up? You can email me if you don't want to say so here.

hi cd - I'm not a creative type, I play other people's music - mainly dead Germans'...

Oh, like Big Daddy Bach and the like? I did the Second Lute Suite back in the day. I still play a bit of 'classical' stuff but it doesn't go down too well in pubs :-)

So, let me rephrase: do you have any RECORDINGS up?

*heaps Thanksgiving wishes lavishly and whuffly on the MeCha gang*

Thanks:
- for spending the day with good friends, our fabulous family of 4 leggers, and no heavy family obligation garbage
- for a most fabulous partner in mrs chewie who willingly accompanies me on hairbrained adventures
- for Simon, the cat who taught me that cats really are loveable
- for the talented folks I work with and finally having found a colleague who respects me as a designer
- for my brain, which came from my parents

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday after Halloween; to me it feels much more spiritual and patriotic than December.

slainte!

I'm thankful that I no longer live in the US and don't have to:

-fend off well meaning but very unwelcome invitations to people's friends' step-parents' neighbors' thanksgivings, so I won't feel 'alone'.
- drive hungrily around looking for an open Chinese restaurant.

I'm thankful for the hugely different opportunities life keeps throwing my way.
I'm thankful that I've so far found the resources within myself to take advantage of those opportunities even if they sometimes cause me pain.

And I'm thankful that I have THE best children in the world. Without a shadow of a doubt. I'm honoured to know them.

and I'm so thankful for the internet! and all of you guys! You're all so damn interesting!

I'm thankful for all my friends, and my 'family' in Ohio, who I just talked to on the phone. I wish I was there with them today.

And for my cats, who mostly ignore me, but who sometimes surprise me with their affection.

I'm thankful to have a job I enjoy, and a warm, comfortable home in a good neighbourhood (upstairs neighbour not included in above)

I'm thankful that MeFi allows me to mark certain answers as 'favorite' ;-)

I'm thankful for my financial prudence and that, apart from the mortgage, I have no debts.

Most of all, I'm thankful for my sobriety, without which I wouldn't have any of the other things I'm thankful for.

I'm thankful for a husband who loves me just as much as when we were married back in 1983-and who has called me "Bunny" for almost that long...for three wonderful children, one wonderful son in law and one fantastic Grandbun...I'm thankful for how good God has been to me, particularly this past year...

And I am thankful for all you bunnies, and for this wondrous place of bunnitude.

I'm thankful that my month-old nephew is pretty adorable and follows me around the room with his eyes when I speak, like his brother did. I'm thankful that my five-year old nephew is into astronomy now, and that he writes books about his little brother. He's working on an illustrated encyclopedia. So far he has a CAR page and a PRINTER page as well as a LITTLE BROTHER page.

The little guy doesn't cry much and is a champion sleeper. Of course, if a giant carried me around all day in a bassinet and fed me warm milk, I'd probably sleep my ass off too. I just like that both he and his brother listen intently when I speak. Shit, they pay more attention to me than I do.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

change, laughter, rediscovering the meditative joy of kneading bread, trying potentially embarrassing things and forgetting to consider being embarrassed, and turkey (enough to feel stuffed, rather than a tiny amount shared by several people while sitting on the floor) (^_^)
