The Alternative-Thanksgiving Thread As an Aussie who lives in Japan I have never celebrated Thanksgiving.

On that day I shall be working - although Friday is officially a public holiday for Labour Day.

The rest of Japan will probably be catching up on sleep or watching TV.

What are the rest of you non-Thanksgiving bunnies doing?
Ooops. Well at least my buggered up formatting should make thebrokedown feel better about theirs.....

On Thursday, I will be visiting family. And taking the obligatory foods that my aunt demands.

On Friday, I have no idea. We might be making a trip to the Farm, if my honey's parents are home.

If the 'rents aren't home, I have no idea, except for sleeping extravagantly.

I'll be on my own, and probably won't do much at all ... I'll make something nice to eat, though it probably won't be Thanksgiving-ish, and I'll be checking in here to hear the groans of indigestion and funny family horror stories.

So, everyone be prepared to make up stories if nothing suitably amusing happens.

On Thursday I'll be in the office. Friday I'm working at home. Pretty boring really.

I don't get it - why would someone not celebrate Thanksgiving?

Only the U.S. and Canada have Thanksgiving, I think.

hellbient: Some people don't do religious holidays.

Yeah, I don't believe in your imaginary sky-Turkey.

We have no Thanksgiving. Like the Indigenous Americans, we have nothing to be thankful for on that particular day.

Hang on - are you being serious?

*taps sarcasm meter*

Just in case you are - only the US and Canada have Thanksgiving. It means nothing to the rest of the world.

I am part Cherokee, so I'm going with dg's answer.

Thanksgiving ain't my bag, man. I'll be working, teaching, and playing guitar, as per usual.

Thursday is my busiest day this week: I'm teaching from 10:00 to 12:15, going to a lecture from 12:30 to 2:00, and then teaching again from 4:00 to 5:30 and from 6:30 to 8:45, with an hour's break in between the last two classes. And I'm being observed by a supervisor in the last class, when I will have no energy left. And because I'm being observed, I have to fill out an insanely detailed lesson plan, with *justifications* for why I'm doing everything, down to the most minute detail. Oy.

Friday I have off, though.

Working as usual, playing music on Thursday evening, and I'm thankful for that.

/also wondering whether hellbient's comment was serious

I'm going to an Autistic Spectrum Disorders parent group, something to be thankful for I guess.
(Guys, take it easy on Hellibent, maybe s/he didn't know we don't celebrate thanksgiving!)

Heh. As an Aussie living in London it's my birthday, and I haven't worked on my birthday for about 10 years. That it's a Friday this year is a double bonus. I'm being whisked off to an undisclosed location for the weekend with a "special surprise". It was the boy's birthday last week too so the weekend is for both of us (I have a few treats up my sleeve [or maybe elsewhere...!] also :). I have a full day Thursday though - my last meeting is scheduled for 6.30pm but the wine is already in the fridge.

I'm going to Montreal on Thursday morning. It isn't Thanksgiving there, of course, but it is my mom's birthday, and that's going to be fun.

I even got a direct flight! Both ways!

Some USian friends and I are going to the Chili's in town for lunch in between shifts. I guess they figure that if we can't eat a real Thanksgiving dinner, Chili's will at least remind us of home? I'm skeptical, but happy that at least we're doing something special that day instead of just working.
