Hey bananas! [More:]
What's the what now?
That's right, ignore me. Well every dog will have his day.

Quite an appealing post. *rimshot*

I'm sitting at my 'puter drinking a Bud. At 2pm, I'm going to do laundry and get sauced at the bar across the street. Hugh may or may not show up and join me. I also scored a DVD of The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed-Up Zombies in the dollar bin the other day. Searching through cultural scrapheaps is so much more rewarding than either the mainstream or the 'alternative,' somehow.

(and as your loyal bar-wife, I really miss you, you crazy vikking longshoreman)

I miss you too podna, someday soon. I like a good cultural scrapheap.

I like a good cultural scrapheap.

Indeed. The more neglected the better. That way the trendoids havent arrived to pollute the place and the best treasures are still there for the taking.

Say 'hi' to Hugh for me, jon. Hope he's doing okay.

The Wino! It's fucking Pavlovian the way I think of caramel pork and my mouth starts watering every time I see your username.

Wino...nice to hear from you. For what it's worth, life in my northern town is great. I've been enjoying cider like an Englishman, and loving this long autumn. The snow will fly soon enough, and it will undoubtedly overstay its welcome, as usual, but for now, life is grand.

I can only assume the same is generally true for you as well, o' wise one. Cheers.

Last year I got a copy of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians in the dollar bin at, of all places, Target. Dollar bin scores are the best - right up there with the Planet of Prehistoric Women DVD I got along with a whole bunch of Gamara movies at the supermarket one strange fine day.

My mouth starts to water too, when I see Divino's user name, and I didn't even know about the caramel pork!

We are good, _Wino; entirely moved in now, and the house is being kind to us; the weather makes that a much more important thing these days.

Dollar bin scores are the best

My current job insures that I get to see what goes in the dollar bin first. And on p2p, I assidiously avoid whatever's currently in vogue, since it's inevitably going to suck. The stuff in the junkpile is so much better.

My favorite job in college was working in acquisitions at the main library. I got to see all the stuff coming in before it dropped into circulation. It was pure random interestingness.

Hi DW!

Jeepers you people are nice.

Gaspode,
I had a savage feast at Doyers with my friend who is originally from Paris. We went nuts, eating as much of the oddball stuff as we could figure out from the menu. He said the frogs legs were the best he ever had in his life and he went into the kitchen to thank the chef, which I have never seen before. The waitstaff was mildly amused.

God that place is good.

I have some really terrible dollar bin movies, it's not all Yay Zombies in there. Sometimes it's fuckit this garbage is in the public domain right? Someone will buy it.

(the other day we had a book on horsebreeding entitled (I shit you not) 'The Great Stud Farms Of North America.' That kept us in stitches for the rest of the day)

That place is so good that every good American needs to eat there before they die. Thanks for introducing me to it.

Oh, my dreamy sex viking, pillage on in your concrete confines until we meet in sleep where i, too, can be a viking.

Yumpin' Yiminy!
posted by jonmc 19 November | 14:25
I actually dreamed I was a Viking the other night. How about that?

Lots of paperwork, it turned out, which was surprising.

Eth!

Did i get to mount you like a trophy animal?
Did i get to bang you like a gavel in a unruly courtroom?
Did you fill them out in triplicate?

Sweet Molly Malone!

Oh hey there eth and Wino!
Metaphorical dream vikings have less paperwork. But they're lamer. Toss up, that.

Since i don't get to ride Divine like a circus animal, how was the spa weekend? Did you get wrapped and cleansed?

It was great! Thanks for asking. There was much luxuriating and my friend turned out to be an awesome traveling companion, which is always a pleasant surprise.

Made it hard to come back to reality though. "Where is my selection of fine tea and muffins? Why must I wear pants and not just a fluffy robe?"

???

Lotsa jokes along the lines of, 'No, this is the stud farm of America!'

I didn't say it was high-minded funny.

DW!!!!!

You have been missed, sir!

(I rarely use exclamation points, dontcha know.)

Everything's funny when I'm high-minded.
posted by chewatadistance 19 November | 18:17
I was gonna make chewey's joke, so I guess I'll just say "Ah, I get it now" and leave it at that.
posted by bmarkey 19 November | 19:03
Jonmc! My father had a copy of the pimp book...I can't remember whether or not I appropriated it. Believe me, it is NOT a stroke book.

I still haven't met DW face-to-face---anytime soon? I pop into Mr. McNally's place of work every so often.
