Does anyone still eat cereal out of the mini boxes by punching out the perfortions and making a slit through the wax paper and pouring milk into it? I just bought some mini boxes and they still have the perforations on them. As a kid I thought it was the greatest thing ever.
Can I just say how horrified I was when I first discovered that the wax paper wasn't totally water(milk?)tight? (I was horrified.) Such an awesome design that just didn't pan out execution-wise.

Me too! Although back in the day, the really coveted cereals like Lucky Charms and Capn Crunch didn't come in tiny boxes. The multi-packs consisted of, like, Raisin Bran, Corn Flakes and Frosted Flakes.

I immediately thought of this from my school reading.

And no, I always opened it from the top and poured it in a bowl. But then I'm a Virgo.

I take the wax paper out of the box, open one end, and pour milk into the wax paper. It's worked fine so far, without any spills or leaks.

Um, I think I always used to use a bowl.

I just did that a couple of months ago for the first time in decades. It kicked ass.

I always used a bowl--it never occurred to me that the wax-paper could hold milk. These are more functional, I suppose, but seem to lack the danger element.

Strangely enough, someone a couple of those single serving boxes in the office kitchen today. One Trix and one Cocoa Puffs. I thought it was strange. They're gone now. I had the urge to loudly complain, "But Trix are for kids!"--however, I thought better of this idea.

My link, which does not seem to work anymore is the opening of O'Connor's And the Lame Shall Enter First which talks about a kid with one of those cereal boxes, putting chocolate AND ketchup in it along with milk.

I used a bowl. And like eamon just bought a package of those a few months ago. It was a fun bit of nostalgia.

I ate 'em outta the box. Favorites were Froot Loops, Cocoa Krispies, Apple Jacks, and Super Sugar Crisp, which is named something else more PC-ish these days. Oh and Frosted Flakes. mmmm.

When I have the little boxes, I box-as-bowl. The perforations are useless, though, and the little flap for opening the bag is always on the bottom, so you have to take it out and flip it around, or clumsily rip open the wrong side of the bag. Then when you're done you have to chuck the box out, milk and all, because there's no way to sip the milk effectively.

Overall, it's a great idea with a terrible design.

Oh, man! Those were one of the best things about camping with my dad when I was a kid. I'm sure my step-mother thought so, too--no dishes, just throw 'em on the fire. (Obviously, we poured the milk into the box. I also think it was yet another excuse for Dad to get his knife out and test its sharpness. Yes, I come by it naturally >:-> )

They didn't call them mini-boxes for nothing. It takes three of them there boxes to fill a bowl.

I remember those!....though we only the ones from Kellogg's.

Oh, c'mon, people. They work fine for camping. Who cares if you spill some milk on the picnic table? The park rangers animals next campers clean it up.
