culinary mishap #38494027 I made Jessamyn's granola recipe last night. [More:]It looked good, and it was a chance to try out ingredients like wheat germ and sunflower seeds I don't normally eat.

Except, turns out...you know those sunflower seeds?

Apparently you're supposed to remove the shells.

I did not know that.

Funny!

I remember making Oriental Noodle Salad the first time and staring at the bag of what I knew to be sunflower seeds and being puzzled as to how to make that work. Luckily, I called my mom to ask her why anyone would ever make anything with sunflower seeds; she laughed and told me about the hearts.

Nah. Other people understand these things. There's a reason the thread is not titled "culinary mishap #4".

The part that didn't taste like wood was quite good, for what it's worth.

LOL! You can also buy already shelled sunflower seeds. They can come in little packages for snacking or in the bulk foods dept. in grocery stores. Much easier than shelling a whole bunch of the little buggers.

So how does one shell sunflower seeds?

Okay, no, really. Why am I locked out of IRC? || This is a genome thread...
