SInce I managed to depress everyone here I figured I'd share some happier news from my neck of the woods. [More:]On a more cheerful note, here's what happens when people work to reclaim a neighborhood.
Thought everyone might like to see the other side of things, too.
The woman in the center is just amazing, she's LITERALLY chased dealers from her neighborhood (which borders my own). I admire her greatly.

A small step, true, but they all add up. I've seen the change in this neighborhood, just since I got divorced and moved back to Allentown, and it's remarkable. Every time I walk past it's like another house has been pulled back from the brink.
Cool, I love to see people who won't give up on a neighborhood. Buffalo seem to have a lot in common with Pittsburgh: loss of industry, loss of population, stagnant economy. We had some good news in our neighborhood today about a historic house is finally going to be restored. It's owned by the hospital next door but they have left it to rot for the last thirty years. The neighborhood groups have finally gotten it declared historic and talked the hospital into restoring it.
