Hey, NYC bunnies... I've got a friend coming out your way next weekend. She's a foodie and she needs some recommendations for places to eat in Chelsea. Any suggestions?
Hill Country BBQ. Exquisite moist brisket.

Mary Ann's on 8th Ave. and about 15th or 16th St. or so. In Chelsea but almost down to the Village.

"Everyday" Mexican but really really good. Cash only.

My other highlight was the Indian food at the food court in Grand Central Station.

For pastries and coffee, I recommend La Bergamote at 169 Ninth Avenue (between 19th and 20th).

Primitivo Osteria is absolutely YUM. It's at 202 W 14th St. between 7th/8th Ave.

A friend of mine that is an Tuscan Italian ex-pat goes there when he's feeling homesick and wants good 'real' Italian food. He brought us there one night for dinner. Everything he ordered was completely off the menu and the food rocked. Probably one of the best meals I've had aside from da Silvano.

Dirty Bird for amazing fried chicken.

RUB also has good barbecue.

The Half King for pub food--co-owned by Sebastian Junger

I had attitude-free meals at Trestle on Tenth and Red Cat (warning! music with last link).

She will also want to hit the Chelsea Market.

I knew you guys would come through. Thank you all. I'll let you know where she goes and what she thought.

And welcome, dancinglamb. I'm flattered that you chose to come out of hiding in my thread. I feel like I took your maidenhead.

oh MY! Don't tell Mr. Dancinglamb! :)

Actually, I only just recently found you guys. Hello, my name is Marisa, and I am a Mefi Addict...

Thanks for the welcome. Hope your friend enjoys her Gotham foodie foray . Oh, and you didn't ask for a good *dessert* place, but you can't beat the Little Pie Company. There are a few of them, but the closest Chelsea one is 14th b/t 9th/10th Aves. Wicked good snackies there!
