Paging Iconomy or Please help me find the source of this quote [More:]
I once read something that went like this:

"A proud walk is better than an embarrassing ride".

I have been searching and can not find the source. It may have been in a book, but I can not recall for certain. Has anyone ever heard this saying before?
You rang? ;P

I have no idea...how funny. Ironically I've heard the opposite idea quoted dozens of times - it's a military thing. It's something like

"The worst ride is always better than the best walk”

but I'll google around anyway... !

Heh, that is funny. But that makes sense that riding is better than walking, but I am positive it was a proud walk. The narrator was saying how her Dad always said that a proud walk was better than an embarrassing ride. I am more and more sure I read it in a book in the last 5 years.

Ooh, it may finally be time to post my first ever AskMe! over there at that other site.

And thank you for taking the time to look around, you have an innate knack for finding stuff.

There's this, on a "My Daddy Always Said" blog (what a neat idea for a blog), but it's the reverse of what you remembered.
