"No Country for Old Men." Anyone else planning on seeing it this weekend? It's gotten stellar reviews. Can't wait.
Me! Tomorrow night. I can't wait.

It's not playing here yet, but I plan to see it when it does.

Yep, tomorrow night.

Wanted to, but it's not opening in SJ till next week :(

I love McCarthy to death but I think he phoned that novel in.

Can't say I blame him, though. He's 73 and has an eight year old son to think of.

I hope the film is better.

I would like to see it but I hate movie theaters.

I have to wait ten days before I can use the discount coupon from AAA.

NYC and LA only?

Been waitin' for this one. I'll go see it tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah, damn. The SF Chronicle said it opens today, but they neglected to mention that SF isn't one of the cities where it's showing. I'm bummed. :(
posted by mudpuppie 09 November | 17:42
"Playing in select cities" never seems to include my city. Sometimes movies never even make it here, my wife and are really wanted to see "The New World" on a big screen a few years ago but it never actually opened here.

Hm, apparently it did open around here today. At three different theaters no less.

I Want TO See It.

But MuddDude came down with flu-ish symptoms yesterday, which means I'll be playing Nursey all weekend. Better pick up the uniform at the drycleaners ;)

Raising Arizona, O, Brother Where Art Thou?, Fargo (to some extent), and that other movie, about bowling, are some of my favorite movies of all time but I cannot, anymore, look at that much violence and cruelty.

From what I have heard, it's not for me, as good as I'm sure it will be.
posted by danf 09 November | 18:23
I can't stomach violence. As much as I love the Coen brothers, I can't go see this one.
posted by bunnyfire 09 November | 18:52
According to Moviefone it's playing at the Century San Francisco Center this weekend.

New Coen brothers? Fuck, yeah. I don't know if I'll see it in the theatres, but I will eventually.

No violence? What are you, a bunch of fucking crybabies?

I'm interested in the fact that jasons_planet is the only person to comment on McCarthy, rather than Coen Bros. Just because our household was like that - me: "new Coen brothers movie", mr. g: "movie of Cormac McCarthy novel".

and... I dont' really have a point.
posted by gaspode 09 November | 19:37
Yep, probably. I'm a massive Coens fan.
posted by Ambrosia Voyeur 09 November | 20:05
I'll probably see it on a torrent site before I see it playing in Little Rock, but, yeah, I'm definitely going to see it.
posted by box 09 November | 20:06
There are no films of McCarthy's novels, are there?
posted by chuckdarwin 09 November | 20:07
There's an All The Pretty Horses movie. It's not my favorite.
posted by box 09 November | 20:11
Looks like there are a few in production, as well.
posted by occhiblu 09 November | 20:11
Yeah, I don't really like that either, box. Sad, because I quite like the book.

Viggo Mortensen starring The Road?

dno mentioned the book too.

Ehhhh . . .I'm just not as into film as the other people here. I am into McCarthy; his novels are usually brilliant and that particular one was notable for being quite below his usual standards. Still good, mind you, just not good for him.

That's all.

Coen brothers *and* McCarthy?!? May have to trek into the Big Shitty to see this one.

(I concur that it wasn't his best novel, but it was still pretty damned good.)

Hmmm...Blood Meridian, directed by Ridley Scott. Have to think about that one. I can see Viggo Mortensen being good in The Road, though.
