Hello. A band called Japancakes has released a cover album of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless.[More:]

Yeah, at first it sounds like a terrible idea that they probably came up with sometime after the bars closed one night, but it's really quite good.

Japancakes - To Here Knows When
I'm a fan of both bands, but when I read about this, I thought it sounded like a surefire flop. You're right, though, this is interesting. I'm not sure I'd have ever searched it out myself, so thanks!

The other album they released this year has a cover of "Heaven or Las Vegas" by the Cocteau Twins on it which is weird - the vocal line has been replaced by a steel pedal. I'm trying to decide if I like it or not.

Dude! I'd listen to steel-pedal Cocteau Twins! Linky!

nice.

i remember reading an interview with trey anastasio from phish a long time ago where he said there was one year when they almost did mbv's loveless in its entirety during one of their halloween shows, but i think they ended up doing talking heads' remain in light instead. i can only imagine how that could have sounded...

Japancakes - Heaven or Las Vegas

A few years ago I started a project to cover the entirity of Depeche Mode's Some Great Reward as an ambient project but I never got past Blasphemous Rumours. I should pick that up again.

I guess this will have to wait until later since the links aren't working at work. Stupid work.

Sounds cool. I will download it when I get home.

P.S. The new album by Yeasayer is totally awesome.

After finally hearing this, thanks cmonkey!

Although, I have to say that my favorite cover of MBV is from SF's Scrabbel who are awesome in several ways and they do a great version of Sometimes (direct link to mp3) from their covers album Hijacked Tunes.
