Ad space is a terrible thing to waste. And so is choice post material. So i am doubly concerned-- nay, shocked to discover[More:] so many unmined veins of lore and ore, and from our own super stylish dabitch, creator of fashionable babies and bringer of bubees.
Sex sex sex!
And one of my all time favorites: Nazi meat at the Piggly Wiggly.
From the epic sucking to the double shucking, Adland is a wealth of nostalgia, ooh and aahs, finger pointing, head scratchers and double takes.
Whether highlighting this disturbing ad with Emma Thompson or displaying recent acquisition of a Paul Rand tribute, i can only think of two reasons why it has been repeatedly pillaged for ffps:
it's not US centric
or
everyone who's into it is already part of it and so can't post it.
So get it while supplies lasts, it's one spicy meat ball!
i'm fascinated by Mad Men and i think growing up in the US, we were all trained and focused on advertising. Everyone in the media seemed to work in advertising and of all the jobs in suits, it was something we could understand, tangible in its intangibility.
i remember being struck at that Alka Seltzer ad's cleverness.
i wonder what happens to the ads as the writer's strike goes on.
Oh, how i hate them now, but i remember them when.

Oh my, what a delish writeup. Thanks eth!

I'm note sure how (or even if) the WAG strike will affect advertising, the writers in advertising can't join WAG so... See, everyone hates us. ;P Course the shows we advertise during will be affected and that's where ad people will pay attention.... Remember the SAG strike? yeah, suddenly Canadian directors and production houses were making a killing shooting us ads. Nobody missed a beat.

Kidding, but it has bugged me that there are a bunch of orgs and unions (over here in europe that is) for illustrators or artists, or designers or whatever creative endevour you can think of - but once you read the small print advertising art directors (me!) aren't included. Interesting.....
was looking into that stuff for insurance purposes. it's such a dizzy road to get covered ain't it? twice so when freelancing!
