$25,000 Holga So, I made a (in my mind) wicked mod of a Holga 120 camera today and thought I would share with the kind folks here.

For those not familiar, the camera is a $25 plastic "toy" now with $25K worth of high-tech guts added for absolutely no reason.
I'm going to be taking some pictures with it tomorrow afternoon and posting those. Right now, it's just the camera. (The indoor shots I took while testing really are just tests and way too boring to post anywhere.)

ANYWAY! I'm not thrilled with the names I've come up with on my own ($25K Holga or Holga-Cam of the Apocalypse), so if anybody has advice, please let me know.

Is this something that will become available in one of those high-end Christmas catalogs?

And, wouldn't it be a 25,025 Holga?

There was a mail-in rebate.

Have you seen the modified Holga and Diana cameras that the White Stripes are selling? (NOTE: link has embedded sound) They're beautiful... overpriced, but beautiful.

I'm extremely charmed by this. The Plastic Fantastic would also be a good name, although I really like Holga-Cam of the Apocalypse.

Maybe you could pronounce it as 'plastique' for extra ridiculousness.

BP, those are pretty good, but I think I'd rather have a plain one that didn't say JACK or MEG on it.

Suggestions? I have never owned a Holga.

cd, you have to buy Dianas used, since they aren't made anymore (but they're not expensive).

For Holgas in the UK, I'd try here first (as recommended by this guy, whose site is excellent).

Get the basic Holga, the 120N, and just have at it. Since you're used to higher-end photography, the lack of control may freak you out at first, and (like everyone) your first roll or two are probably going to look crappy till you get the feel of it, but don't get discouraged- Holga photography is one big lark, and should never be stressed over or taken very seriously. :)

The first roll I shot with my Holga was the best ever. It was a total crapshoot (literally) and I've never duplicated the amazing otherworldliness and ethereal quality of those first photos. I agree with BP - it's too fun.
