Recommend me some classical music for my dogs... to keep them happy when I'm not around? They love music. Their heads lift and ears perk even when something nice plays on TV. [More:]

I'm looking for music that's upbeat and happy but not frantic or frenetic, soothing and relaxing but not boring, sad or mournful...

...and preferably nothing that sounds like (excuse my stupidity) trumpets heralding the coronation of a king, nor anything that sounds so poncy it should be playing at a formal ball for frilly, fancy, delicately dancing noblemen and ladies.

I can't speak for them, but I like strings, although they're not necessary. Music that brings to mind nature is great. I already have Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

Thanks!
Dogs who enjoy music are so great. Mine really liked Bach (start with the Brandenburg concertos, maybe) and Dvorak (try Symphony #9, "From the New World", it's very folksy and evocative). He used to sleep under the piano when I practiced, but he was too stupid to realize the loud parts would scare him awake. Also I don't think he liked trumpets, something about the timbre apparently hurt his ears.

Bach again, one piece in particular - Where Sheep May Safely Graze (Cantata 208) It has a delightful melody and is very soothing.

Also:-

Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending
Vaughan Williams - The London Symphony
Halvorsen - Dances Norwegiennes & Air Norwegienne
Gustav Holst - St Paul's Suite For String Orchestra
Gustav Holst - Beni Mora (Oriental Suite) Op.29 No.1
Gustav Holst - Somerset Rhapsody
Rimsky Korsakov - Sheherazade (some bits might be a bit raucous)

Mozart: Symphony Nr. 40 in G Minor, K. 550. At least, it always puts me in a better mood, so dogs who like classical music might enjoy it too.
