Why're all the flags at half mast? I noticed today on campus that all our flags are at half mast. I mentioned this to a friend of mine who was visiting from Kansas, and she said that they were like that last weekend down there as well, so it's not just an Iowa thing. Am I missing something obvious? Or is it just a coincidence that two states have mandated half-mastyness and gave me the impression that it was a nationwide thing?
Iowa mandates that flags are half-staff when a US soldier from Iowa gets killed in Iraq, so maybe that was it.

Oh. That's what I get for not actually paying attention to the state I live in. Must've just been a coincidence.

Flags in Michigan are constantly at half-staff due to soldiers from here being killed in Iraq.

It's similar here in San Antonio - whenever a soldier from a San Antonio base is killed, the flags are lowered.

I've heard a rumor there's a war going on, but I'm pretty skeptical.
