Reid Fleming - World's Toughest Milkman [More:]My lousy day just got a little brighter. God bless the wonderful people at Collections Canada, for they have scanned and posted the first issue of my very favorite comic from the 80s. (Sure, the scans could be a little bigger. I'm just grateful that they went to the trouble in the first place.)
That's actually the Library and Archives Canada. Don't mind me - I'm half-asleep. Just call me Captain Coffee.

Awesome. Who says we don't get anything for our taxes.

All these years later those comics still make me laugh. When I ditched my comic collection years ago Reid Fleming was amongst the few I kept (along with Spirit, Stig's Inferno, Kelvin Mace, Hate, and Eightball). I'm really surprised that someone hasn't made a Reid Fleming movie yet.

Bless you, bmarkey. I worked in a comic store in the 80s, in spite of the fact that the only comics I actually liked were The Tick, Those Annoying Post Brothers, Hate, and, of course, Reid Fleming. I kees you for this link.

Awesome. Reid Fleming was waiting for me in my stocking, hung by the TV with care, on the Christmas morning of my eleventh year.

They've been trying for years, decades even, but it seems a cursed project. There is a whole long saga about who has been attached, who has died, etc.

I'd forgotten that Cerebus was a Canadian comic. I've also just remembered that I never did read all of them. I'll have to correct that.
Reid Fleming. What a book. A friend of mine used to have a button with Reid's face on it saying, "I thought I told you to shut up!" I've always liked Boswell's line art, and thought he should be far better known than he is.
Captain Canuck - I liked it. It was never as over-the-top as, say the X-Men or Batman. Basically, it's like if the CBC tried to do a superhero thing. It'd be ok. Odd. You'd recognise some cities where it was shot. The production values would be good, but *just*not*quite*good*enough*. It'd have that CBC *thing* going on. There would be an obscure reference to Newfoundland that everyone outside of Canada wouldn't get, but'd piss off the Newfies. CBC'd apologise for it about a week-and-a-half later. There would be a sly aside about The Beachcombers. Labrador would never be mentioned, as no one ever mentions Labrador. weird, that.
