the best band you've never heard of [divshare] [More:]
saw these guys 2 years ago at Christmas, live, in the tumbledown ghetto theatre-turned-indie-venue in Over-The-Rhine Cincinnati where they got their start back in the early 90s.

it's good to go home again... sometimes.

Over The Rhine - Ohio
I really like that track. They have a lot of albums out - any idea where a good place to start would be?

Pretty cool. I don't know that it could ever replace 'Look At Miss Ohio' in my heart, though.

She reminds me a bit of Fiona.

TheDonF, start with 'Ohio', the album that track came off of. It's a double CD and is quite representative of their style. It's mostly newer stuff. If you like that, try 'Eve', which is the album that introduced me to them via the indie-college-rock heyday of WOXY/97X, our local station in Cincinnati.

they used to play live at Sudsy Malones, a shitty dive laundromat/bar/music venue with a stage that was all of about 2 metres square in the university ghetto of Cincinnati. Linford Detwiler (the singer's husband) would play the bar's out-of-tune piano in a (sometimes futile) attempt to drown out the clatter of washing machines and drunken patrons.

It was one of those venues that comprehensively sucked as a music venue but was awesome nonetheless, and you got to really appreciate the band all that much more for it, if that makes any sense.

Pfff! I've heard of them! I'm not terribly fond of them, actually, but I like Films for Radio. This is not Goodbye and The Body is a Stairway of Skin are my favorite tracks from it.

I played Sudsy's. I don't remember it fondly.
