I'm a bad bunny. →[More:] It's not only because (a) I missed last night's NYC meetup with essexjan, which I promised promised promised I would attend, or because (b) I missed my friend's CD release party in Brooklyn. It's also because I made a woman at the AG store want to kill me. See below.
I can't believe I missed last night's meetup. Excuse: I had to take The Boyfriend shopping at Woodbury Common, and it took
all freakin' day.
He didn't get anything. He was supposed to get jeans, shoes and a jacket.
I on the other hand, achieved all my goals:
• Jeans
• Shoes
• Sports bra
• Yoga pants
So as I said, I had a bit of a kerfluffle with the AG store. See, I went in there and tried on a pair of jeans, and I bought them. They were okay, they were suitable, I figured I could at least stop hunting for jeans. I hate buying jeans -- they never fit quite right.
But then I went into J. Crew (because The Boyfriend figured they might have jeans he could wear) and decided to try on another pair. Mind you, I'm on a budget, so I could only afford ONE pair of jeans. But these! They were magic pants. They fit exactly as I wanted them to.
So I go back to AG to return my other jeans. Receipt's still in the bag, it's only been half an hour since I bought the pants ... and they have a no returns policy. But they don't have anything posted, and they didn't tell me about it. It's on the receipt, but they put the receipt in the bag, besides which by the time you get a receipt you've already made a non-refundable purchase.
The Boyfriend tried on a few pairs, but they all had crazy back pockets. I looked at some shirts, but I didn't need shirts.
Finally, after much debate, I go up to the assistant manager and tell her that (a) the policy was not displayed -- it was behind a potted plant!!! -- and (b) no one told me about it, and while it wasn't her policy I was very disappointed in the store. I asked for the number of corporate headquarters.
Went outside the store, called corporate, and the woman said she would call the store immediately and have them make an exception for me. Needless to say, the assistant manager looked like she wanted to KILL me when I went back inside for my refund.
No, seriously, she was super-angry. And all the other employees had gone and hidden in the back room. I wanted to say, "Look, it's nothing against you. It's the policy. I hope I didn't mess up your day, and I love you and all people, and I'm so sorry for the trouble." I did say something to this effect, minus the part about love, and she was like, "It's only retail."
How much bad karma did I rack up yesterday????
