A "cat sweater" is an old ratty sweater you give to your cat to sleep and shed on. Cats don't wear sweaters, except in Japan, and they all seem pissed about it.

I bought a knit sweater for Twinkie once. I put it on her, and only then discovered it was too small- too small to get off, that is. She was really angry and kept biting me as I tried to tug it off her. I ended up cutting it off.
