Weeeeeeird dreams. Ideas on what the hell's going on with my mind? [More:]I was lying in a big bed in the middle of a sun-streaked forest, talking to my father on my cell phone, tearfully explaining that I had only one vacation day saved up so I couldn't do whatever he wanted me to do. Then I started shrieking that ducks were about to attack -- two large ducks (I think they may have actually been geese -- long necks -- but they were snowy white) had just landed menacingly in one of the nearby trees; one of them swooped down and bit my toe, which was poking out of the covers.

(My toes always poke out of the covers when I sleep.)

Ikkyu2 successfully fought off the duck/goose, which was hanging on to my toe for dear life; my father patiently waited until this was over to resume our conversation.

Then I was in a room with a bunch of classmates, or possibly children, and my internship supervisor. He wanted us all to go through boxes of clothing and put on "at least seven or eight layers" on top of our current clothing. For some reason, my current clothing was only a half-slip and a (very cute!) stripy sweater.

I don't even know where to start with this one.
Sounds like there was noise in the room wile you slept, or light changes; my wackiest dreams seem to come from creaking hinges and flickering streetlights.

Uh, I meant "while." Obviously. But it's such a stupid looking typo that I just had to say something. What a boner.

I don't normally do this, but I am going to share my dream from last night, because it is also one of the weirdest I have ever had. David Beckham and I were transporting a Slovenian (Estonian?) boy and Portuguese girl by foot to the Guarulhos airport in Sao Paulo last night, and the currency of choice was green onions. The hallmark of the dream was inconvenience. Why were we walking? Why didn't we just use money instead of produce for the exchange of goods and services? Every once and awhile, I had to explain to the little Slovenian (Estonian?) boy to keep quiet, so that the Russians wouldn’t take him. More likely Estonian, I guess. Does that qualify as a bad dream? David Beckham wasn’t pretty even, just annoying. He wasn't much help with the children, and was prone to falling asleep himself. At some point, arcane football (UK) rules came into play. Just bizarre.

sun-streaked forest

Jung says the forest is life in general, the great landscape or stage upon which your dream symbols appear.

tearfully explaining that I had only one vacation day saved up so I couldn't do whatever he wanted me to do.

You're busy, you feel guilty, you feel like your relationships aren't getting enough attention?

Geese...one of them swooped down and bit my toe, which was poking out of the covers

You feel threatened, and somehow a little bit exposed? There is a vulnerable area that you're not in the habit of protecting, and the threatening thing is finding it?

Ikkyu2 successfully fought off the duck/goose

A lovely sign that he is helping you deal with this vulnerability?

at least seven or eight layers" on top of our current clothing. For some reason, my current clothing was only a half-slip and a (very cute!) stripy sweater.

Again, themes of exposure and need for protection. The classroom setting suggests it may have to do with your schooling or coursework.

Just my off-the-cuff thoughts. With dreams I always try to take the symbols up one level until they're an abstract noun, then look for something in my life that also fits with that noun. I believe that the storylike symbols in dreams are just a right-brained way of moving abstract concepts around in the mind, putting faces, shapes, and colors on our more intangible problems. Thus "toe sticking out of blankets" is "exposure."

It works for me, but everyone's different.

Occhiblu, what did you have for dinner last night? I think my dream may have been a direct result of eating too much garlic-infused olive oil. Or maybe it was the beer. I don't normally drink beer, but last night I had a bottle. We also had HD installed yesterday, so television played a larger role in the evening than it normally does. Did you do anything differently last evening before bed?

I'm in the midst of reading a good, but creepy, novel about a haunted house in New Orleans, and had to leave the light on to fall asleep, so... yeah.

Miko, lots of stuff to think on there. I'm in the midst of being both overwhelmed and annoyed at all the "miracles" I feel I'm being expected to perform for the internship, so... again, yeah.

Must run off to yoga. Back soon!

You know, what still confuses me is the duck/goose thing. Duck duck goose? Good for the goose? Why on earth were fluffy snowy geese-like ducks attacking my toes?

I like what you said about exposure, Miko. I've been feeling like a raw nerve lately, like there's just some layer of protection that's been stripped away. I think it's mostly a good thing -- a letting go of defenses that no longer served me -- but it's left me feeling a bit defenseless.

Yes, I didn't get much sleep last night either. What with fighting off the ducks and all.
