The point of correct usage is to protect and promote clarity

Great answer.

I was going to compare it to something like "I have one hundred dollars and quarters." Totally unclear construction. Do I have one dollar and 99 quarters? One hundred dollars and some unspecified number of quarters? Or one hundred units of currency in different amounts?

I like this answer. Lots of grammar questions are the result of people tying themselves in knots trying to solve false dichotomies. There's no reason to think that if you come up with two logical opposites (ONE hundred men and bunnies? Or TWO hundred men and bunnies?) then one of them must make grammatical sense.

The number of bunnies won't stay at 100 for very long anyway.
