19 October 2007

I had a good day. How about you?[More:]Apparently my jaw is finally healing up and the pain is fading, so today I kicked my new Percoset habit and left the house for the first time since Monday night. I don't start my new project until tomorrow, so I decided to take a relaxing day off. Went into SF to get my hair cut and colored (I LOVE IT! My hair's all soft & shiny now and I feel so much more human!), then I went to visit a friend's record shop where I bought 4 jazz singer CDs (I haven't bought any jazz vocals all year, so that was a big deal. It means I'm in a mood to discover new songs to sing. Which is good.), then walked to a nearby patio restaurant that was recommended to me and read a book while eating a nice lunch and drinking a glass of wine. There were two people at the table next to me, both visiting from Holland and we talked a bit. Then the CUTEST little dachshund puppy bounced by... I just melted and imagined how cute my dog probably was as a puppy (she was 1 1/2 when I rescued her). The puppy gave me a wiggly, licky greeting that of course I thoroughly enjoyed. Then a little bit later I walked back to my car and drove home without much traffic in my way. All in all... a very enjoyable day. :)

Okay, your turn.
I know I'm writing this late... so feel free to talk about your Thursday OR your Friday. Or hey... your whole week, if you like. :)

i think i have pms so everything has had this hurry up come to a screeching halt wait wait wait quality to it.
Better than kicking narcotics, worse than cute puppies.
And i've been fighting the urge to do drastic things to my hair.
Is it that time again? Hair changing time?

I finished my remaining work! Now I just have one class tomorrow, and then I can drive home, where I will judge high school debate tournaments and have awkward reunions with family and ex-girlfriends.

Oh, college. I love you so.

Your day sounds great Miss Lynnster. I want 4 new jazz CDs and a glass of wine.

Today, the day is young, so I can't really comment. My husband is at work, my older child is at school, and my youngest is still sleeping. Peace.

I'm sad and confused and thinking too much about a tragedy that happened recently. I'm trying to think about other things and occupy my head and time.

Last night I joined a large group of women on a road trip. We piled into two stretch Hummer limousines and went on a "Ghost tour" in St. Augustine. St. Augustine was beautiful as usual, but the ghost tour was atrocious. They gave us these little ghost detectors and disposable cameras so we could detect orbs and spirits and auras. :) We rode on an open trolley and a went on guided walking tour throughout the city. Our guide lacked any kind of talent. I don't believe in ghosts, and I'm not interested in anything "paranormal" in the least bit. It's not my idea of fun. It was a snoozefest but I was trying to be a good sport and get into it, but couldn't. I was daydreaming the entire time and looking at plants and buildings, and wishing I was on a history or garden tour, or in my bed, instead.

I am coming to terms, slowly, that Daughter has applied to SF State and will go there, if accepted, and est. residency asap, for year 2.

It will be a stretch financially, but we can do the first year if she gets a good aid and scholarship package, then it will be cheaper.

But she just wants to be GONE from this one horse town. It'll be hard.

I have a stye in my right eye. It's very annoying.

I spent a good chunk of yesterday figuring out what I need to do and when in order to get my applications to grad school together before deadlines. I'm gonna be a liiiibrarian!

I woke up at 2.30a because my boyfriend went downstairs to write out a bit of dream and then I couldn't get back to sleep. My brain keeps whizzing.

I don't know if I want to go back to Boston. Well, I want to, but I don't know if it's the best idea all around. Grad school is going to complicate things.

I made cheesy pasta with squash (for me) and cheesy pasta with soy cheese (for the boyfriend) last night. I got the recipes from here, and I have loads of leftovers for the freezer. And I made squash bread (like pumpkin bread) with more of the squash. And I still have squash left! What else can I do with squash??

Maybe this ought to be a MeCha FPP in its own right:

New GF, who lives 45 minutes out from the city in a little town, got tagged out for drunk driving and has a Breathalyzer in her car (and the special high-visibility license plates to warn the cops). She's been driving into the city to job-hunt and spend time with me.

Apparently late last month, she had a late-night drink at home, and the next morning she still had just enough alcohol on her breath that the Breathalyzer recorded it. The Powers That Be downloaded the machine's monthly data, bureaucratic wheels ground fine, and now the court has told her she cannot drive. At all. Period.

I don't know yet for how long this total embargo on driving will last, but for the nonce, she's in a little bitty town with zero mass transportation, no job, not a lot of possibilities for jobs within walking distance, and no way to get around other than on foot. I'm thinking about getting her a bicycle, but that won't work too well later when it gets cold enough to snow. I can't really afford to support her or have her move in with me.

And, much more seriously, I'm wondering if I'm dating someone who's less than completely candid about the extent of her issues with alcohol, too.

PaxDigita-That sounds like a shitty place for your GF to be. You might want to play around with something like this blood alcohol content calculator to get a sense of what it takes to blow greater than a 0.08 It's a lot, if any appreciable time has passed.

omiewise...thanks. Again, I wonder if I should've made this a FPP to avoid hijacking miss l.'s otherwise wonderful thread. I may yet do that; I have a feeling I may need some help discussing this with her.

To get back on-topic, today after work I stopped at the Kroger across the road and tried the soup at the sample kiosk, and wound up taking home some really nice potato-and-bacon soup -- just the thing with a glass of merlot now that the weather's all cool and blustery.

Now I'm savoring a (rare) bowl of pipe tobacco -- finely shredded Maduro leaf in a big ol' briar I've been saving to break in this fall. It's strong, pungent and every puff is full of little bursts of flavor -- chocolatey and raisiny, heavy and sweet. Listening to the tail end of All Things Considered as I type this in my home office and pet my economy-sized black cat.

Life's mostly pretty darn good, y'all.
