Another Frank Lloyd Wright photoset for you. I visited another Wright building last weekend and took a few pics. They're nothing special, but I wanted to share them with you. Todays destination: the Graycliff Estate, outside Buffalo, NY.
Thank you, pie! You know I am fellow Wright junkie. This house looks really interesting...it's classically Wright-ian but somehow staid, something of the manor house about it. I love your shot looking out from the dining area with the lit sconces...that evoked all the peace and groundedness his interiors always have for me.

Miko, I actually shot that through the house. I was standing on the inland side, shooting towards the lake, on the opposite side. The ground level is thus meant to be a pavilion; linear, and open on both sides. I saw some more Wright buildings in Buffalo, which I'll try to shoot next time I'm there. I also had drinks with kellydamnit. (w00t!)

What a beautiful place. There's something vaguely European about it. Oh, and there's some serious deferred maintenance; I suppose it's a lack of funds.

Actually, they're more than halfway through the restoration process. For years (late 40's through early 90's, I think) the building was used as an orphanage by the Catholic Church, and they couldn't afford to keep it up properly. The interior is far from done, but all the expensive stuff's been taken care of.
