Good news, bad news [More:]Possible very good news - mrs. tr33 took a test this morning and . . . we might be on our way to being parents! I think false positives are pretty rare, and we're taking another in a few days to be sure, but right now it looks very possible! shhhh, don't tell anyone, since you're supposed to wait three months and all that jazz, but I had to tell someone!

Possible somewhat bad news - we were pretty sure this was NOT going to be the month, so last weekend mrs. tr33 had more than a few adult beverages at the Last Comic Standing show, and "smoked" a little (very little) a few nights before that. So, she's very stressed out about that, keeps saying we're going to have a baby with six heads, but I keep telling her we'll likely be fine, as it's so early, and she really didn't indulge too much.

Definite bad news - threw my back out getting out of the shower this morning and am in excruciating pain. It happens a few times a year to me, but why oh why today??
Quiet congrats! Don't sweat it, mrs tr33. It'll be fine; worry about now and tomorrow, that'll be plenty.

Mrs. tr33 and the small tr33 will be FINE. Do not let the Pregnancy Police scare you, because they are insanely out of control and have been for years. Look, my mother, like many if not most mothers of her generation, drank martinis ("You used to kick like crazy after I had a couple drinks!") and smoked cigarettes through all three of her pregnancies and not only did we all turn out fine (shut UP. I tell you we're FINE) but we were all well over 8 pounds.

I'm not recommending a return to those days, so don't flame me, perfect pregnancy people, but honestly, a glass of wine or a beer here and there is not going to hurt the baby and it can do wonders for the mother's morale. And one night of overindulgence before you've even missed a period does not a 6 headed mutant monster child make. Your body, if you listen to it, will totally let you know what's okay and what isn't and never fear, the special joy of morning sickness is on its merry way to keep you in line.

Also, YAY!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is true. If you remember anything from high school biology, the most the baby can have is 4.

I keed, I keed.

Tee hee. And thanks folks - that's what I've been trying to channel to her as reassurance. :)

The first branch on the family tr33! Congrats, dude.

Do not worry about it one whit. My sister was a pretty heavy recreational chemical user before she found out she was pregnant with the nephew, and he is just fine - now 10, intelligent (school chess champion every year since grade one!!) and a big bruiser physically. The babby will be fine.

Congratulations!

In his book about his open adoption, Dan Savage worries the pregnancy what sort of things his baby's birth mother (a runaway living on the streets) is doing to her body. After the baby is born, and comes home, he decides that whatever amount of drugs she took while pregnant, it was just enough, because the baby was healthy, happy, and easy-going.

Congrats!
But consider - a six-headed baby would be awesome. You could probably even get corporate sponsorship.

shhhh, congrats. fingers, toes all crossed for you...

It's more worrisome that she might freak out about every little thing-- nip that in the bud right now.
Rather than go on about every mom i know who tripped acid before she knew or Halle Berry's mom going on about how much she smoked and drank with her in the oven, Metachat does seem to be the place to spill it as soon as the pee hits the stick.
That's just nutty.
If it doesn't stick, don't be too worried either.

As for the back, got anything that helps?
Personally haven't been high in ages, and that's so wrong.

eth, I've got some vicodin at home, the place to which I am headed very soon. Had to take care of some things at work this morning, but soon I'll be in dreamy vicodin-laced heating pad land.

Thanks all. I know we're not even 100% sure yet; we're going in for a blood test Friday, but if we are preggers, holy crap and hallelujah!

Congratulatory whuffles!

And everyone's right, the drinks she had will NOT affect anything.

I smoked and drank heavily the entire 9 months my mother was pregnant with me, and I turned out fine. Congratulations!

Congratulations and totally don't sweat the indulgence. At 3 weeks tr33hggr' barely even divided enough for cell differentiation.

Congradulamations!

My mum managed to quit smoking while pregnant with her three youngest kids but only because it nauseated the hell outta her. But put the Coors or G&T down? Heaven forbid. She wasn't smoking or drinking (yet) when pregnant with my two oldest brothers*.

We're all relatively healthy (well, there are issues but nothing that can be pinned on drinking), intelligent (believe it or not) and I was the smallest baby at 6.6 lbs.

*Ha! I almost wrote that as "bothers"! Freudian slip, indeed.

My mom had a bunch of false labour pains, and finally the doctor told her to have a shot of whiskey and wait five minutes (he felt that it would bring on a huge pain if it was real labour).

Times have changed.

Mitheral's got it. Here's a diagram of the embryo, assuming it's about one month along.

That did the trick Mitheral and muddgirl. She's back on the positive tip!

We're taking a second test tomorrow morning to make sure. If it's positive, whoo-hoo!

We both hope it's a girl. Regardless of the sex, I wanted to name our first child "Freedom" but mrs. tr33 is having none of that!

I missed this but hey, that's awesome, tr33hggr! Congradges!

I was on the phone with my brother yesterday and he looked down at my week-old nephew and said, "He's blinking at me. He's awfully cute, you know."

You have so much to look forward to; that's great!

If your last name is something like "Freisch," tr33hggr, you need to overrule and do it anyway. That'd be freakin' awesome.

Too funny BP, but nothing as hilarious or sexy as that. Good old British last name, so I'm going to let her have her way (this time! mwaa haa haa!).

Mrs. Plinth got morning sick the day she was pretty sure that the embryo implanted. Basically, the hormone sluices turned on and made her blow chunks. Her doctor laughed at her and thought it was silly that she'd know that she was pregnant at that point. Mrs. Plinth was right on the button, so HA HA medical school person!

Enjoy the process - it's very interesting. Lots of fun things happen physically and emotionally. If you've bought into fear, it's hard to keep those in mind.

Mrs. Plinth put herself on a mailing list that would send her email every week saying things like, "your fetus is now the size of a pomegranate/grapefruit/watermelon..." which she found comforting.

Congrats on your future degenerate, drug-addicted baby. My Gawd, haven't you ever seen Reefer Madness? S/He'll be hitting you up for dime bags before s/he can walk. And his/her first words will be shit like "dude, let's burn one."

Kidding. You'll all be just fine. Congrats.
