Fitness update. [More:]
As some of you will know, after I got back from New York in June I was shocked when I saw the photos at how fat I'd let myself get. So I embarked on a diet and fitness programme.

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement you've given me.

I haven't been as diligent about it as I'd have liked, because, well, there's real life to live and on the days when I've got up at 5.30am to be in the office by 7, I really don't feel much like working out hard when I get home at 5pm.

But I've tried hard, and I've (mostly) stuck to my diet.

So, here are the results.

Total weight loss 33lbs.

According to the BMI charts (and the mirror) I am still overweight, and I know I still have a long way to go to get to optimum fitness. My arse and thighs are still wobbly, but there's definitely less of them.

Over all, I'm delighted with my progress and the before and after pictures are definitely an incentive to continue.

Here I am on June 18 2007. A horrible sight, I was so miserable that I'd allowed myself to get so fat.

And here I am today.

Good for YOU EJ! You look great!!! Love the kb's too. :D I've only lost about 5, but my endurance is better and I have more energy. And no more tourniquet jeans.

You look fantastic. I freaking love 'in progress' photos.

Where did you find the exercises to do, or are you watching a tape? I love kettleballs.

ico, I found some exercises through Stumptuous, and also from YouTube. A couple of weeks ago I attended a kettlebell masterclass run by Crossfit London, which was awesome.

I also joined a gym, for the cardio machines and the pool.

I keep calling them kettleballs, even though I know they're kettlebells. Just ignore me.

Did you cut anything out of your diet? Your skin looks a lot glowier and healthier!

And here's my original post from 18 June, when I made my commitment to get fit.

I cut out most starchy carbs, sugar, refined, processed food and I've been eating low-fat, low-carb natural food as much as possible, with the exception of a Myoplex chocolate shake for breakfast. Lots of salad, veggies, fish, chicken, miso soup.

Wow! Good for you, and what a difference! You must have lost six inches or more off your waist!

And honestly, you're not just dieting, you're also working out. So screw the BMI charts. You could get smaller but go up in weight because you're adding muscle tissue to take the place of fat.
