So Effing Domenstic, I Am. →[More:]Yesterday, I made a fine pot roast with root vegetables and butternut squash for dinner, which is easy-peasy because the pot roast, once set up, just stews on its own for three or four hours. Then I turned 1/2 peck of
Cortlands and a quart of fresh cider into a couple quarts of apple butter. Tonight, I decided I needed a vehicle for apple butter, so I made gingerbread cake.
If enjoying the cake and apple butter, washed down with cider as I type. Had I'd known that the cylinder for the ice cream maker wasn't in the freezer, I'd be having this with a scoop of maple banana ice cream too.
Although the Cortlands made perfectly tasty apple butter, I think that
Arkansas Blacks made better, but this area has more in the way of out-of-hand varieties.
