Run down to the cafeteria and eat as heaping a spoon of sugar as you can. Don't chew.

This is so bizarre. I had a dream last night about giving hiccup advice to someone. (And I'm with eamon on the sugar.)

Yes, sugar. But, I always forget about it until someone (like eamondaly)reminds me.

I grew up with the water thing, so it's ingrained, but doesn't work as well.

Plus, sugar is good.

1. Drink a glass of water backwards - from the opposite side of the glass. Hold your breath as you finish.
2. WITHOUT BREATHING, put your thumbs over your ears and your pinky fingers over both sides of your nose, pinching it closed.
3. Turn your head upside down and put it between your legs.
4. Stay like that as long as you can without dying.
5. Your hiccups should be cured. If not, lather, rinse, repeat.

Option 1: Drink upside down (as mentioned by mgl), hold your breath and then swallow. Keep holding your breath as long as you can.

Option 2: Light a match, drop it in a glass of water and drink immediately. You will taste sulfur. Don't know why this works, but it does.

So I walk into lecture and the prof comes over to ask about the homework I turned in this morning, which apparently freaked me out so bad it stopped the hiccups before lecture actually started. Yay!

(The lecture is taped too, for distance learning students, so I am very glad my hiccups will not be recorded and distributed for all posterity.)
