Wait..What? Are these pigs really tattooed, and for what? (I'm sorry to be dense about this) Research in removal? Someone please tell me!

They're used by tattooists to learn how to tattoo. They'll end up at a slaughter house. I wonder if anyone gets pork rinds that still have tattoos on them.
