octothorpe, I both love and hate yours - that's pretty much how the world looks to me without my glasses, so I automatically squint at it to try and get it into focus, and it won't go! Now I have a headache. But it is cool.

These are great. And here I thought this theme would be a flop, at least at the last minute.

chuckdarwin, that's brilliant. Brilliant. Can I post it on my blog and credit you, if I get around to it? It's like the field in the back of a comic or cartoon artist's head where old or unused ideas live and rest unattended, but hopefully play together. The ~~Island~~ Field of Misfit Toys.

I just took this shot five minutes ago outside my kitchen door, and no photoshopping (except for the border)... tomorrow I look for something more abstract.

This was a blurry, dark picture so I took it to Photoshop and just whaled on it for a while until it lay down and gave up. Now I think it's kind of cliched, actually - but what the hell. Is it art?

Photo Friday: But is it art?

IT IS ART!

If anyone doesn't know the story behind the theme, "But is it art?" is a time-honored question, cliché and joke. It questions the very nature of "Art," brings into play questions of elitism in art circles, and also functions as a simple question for the artist him/herself (which often boils down to, "Can I sell it?" LOL.)

Variations and evolutions include:

~"Yes it's interesting, but is it Art?"

~"Is it 'art' or is it 'Art'?"

~"Is it true 'art,' or is it 'illustration'? Is Norman Rockwell an artist or an illustrator?" This is a popular debate. "Is Frank Frazetta a true artist or a pop/commercial art illustrator?"

~"It may be art, but would you hang it on your wall?"

~"It's art, sure, but would someone PAY to hang it on his wall?"

Anyway, most real artists take a very, non-commercial, anti-elitist, liberal view of the question.

THIS IS ALL "ART" TO ME.

I covered the top and bottom of the lense with my fingers while taking a photo of the wall. I don't know why. It just happened.

It's a Photoshop job, but I can't remember what I did exactly - I just kind of stumble around in there and click on things until I'm happy. I added the sun flare and fiddled with some other stuff to get the coloured effect - the original has a plain blue sky and the tent awning is grey. You can see what the original colours would have been here.
