Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass is anyone else playing it?[More:]

The Good:
-Some of the stylus uses are really inspired.
-The graphics, though cartoony, look really nice.
-Some of the puzzle solutions are incredibly clever.

The Bad
-The puzzles all seem to be either really easy, or consult a strategy guide hard, with more of the former. Though I hear this changes later.
-There are just some points where it would be nice to use the control pad.
Oh My God. I've never heard of this. It will be mine later tonight.

(the graphics look just like Wind Waker)

Huh. Must acquire.

I must have this. But the grant money hasn't come in yet so I'm three paychecks behind. Cry.

Am I missing something? I got the Zelda game for the Wii and, good God, talk about dull. What a piece of crap! Sure it looked gorgeous, but it was an appalling game. Everyone seems to fawn over Zelda games, but I really cannot see why.

I've only really played the Zelda games for the N64 and now the DS, but the thing I like about them is that they don't rely as much on your ability to press a button at exactly the right time or to land your guy perfectly as they rely on thinking about where you have to throw something or solving some minor puzzle.

I played Twilight Princess on my GameCube and I was pretty disappointed in it too. It's actually the only video game I've ever played that I never finished (that I can recall, anyway). I ended up in a room in the dark...uh, place (the final level), where Link had to pick up a sphere and drop it in a hole to open a door, while a huge disembodied hand followed him and tried to drop him back into the previous room. There was fog thing on the floor that he could scatter, but if it floated back and touched him while he was carrying the sphere, he turned into the wolf and then the ball dropped, and he had to start over again. After the fog touched him about 20 times, and the hand grabbed him about 20 times and dropped him back to the previous room, and after I got done screaming and cursing at the tv, I turned off the game, grabbed the cd and put it into its case, and drove to gamestop to trade it in.

Yeah, maybe that's where I'm going wrong. After a long day/week of work, the last thing I want to be doing is solving puzzles. Just give me some mindless violence and/or action.

It just came out this week, iconomy. For some reason stupid Target wasn't stocking it until Wednesday, so I had to make an extra trip to Best Buy to pick it up.

But yes, drezdn, I am playing it. I agree with your assessment so far, but I've yet to have to consult a gaming (or, in my case, internet walkthrough). I just found the proper path to take to the Land of Gust, or whatever it's called. Fun game though. Really makes use of the touch-screen (and microphone). It'll pay for itself in entertainment value for sure. And I know as soon as I'm done with it, the DS will go into the SO's hands for her enjoyment.

iconomy: that part of Twilight Princess is the most frustrating part of the game (except for one stage of the final boss, which requires you to use a move that you only use one other time in the game, at the beginning). In general, though much of it seemed familiar, I liked Twilight Princess a lot, though I much preferred Wind Waker's artistic style. (I never finished Wind Waker, though-way too easy, and I put it aside when I got bored with the gigantic fetch quest near the end.)

I'm going to pick up Phantom Hourglass eventually, maybe this weekend, but there are way too many must-own games coming out this season for me to have even a chance at playing them all (Bioshock; Guitar Hero III; Rock Band; Super Mario Galaxy; Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles; Front Mission DS; Phoenix Wright 3; Panzer Tactics DS; Advance Wars 2 DS; two new editions of Dance Dance Revolution that came out last week, including one for the Wii; etc.). It's an embarassment of riches for gamers.

I love this game. It's the best game ever made for the DS, I think, and maybe already in my top ten best video games ever ... every minute of this game is infused with joy. I know I'm gushing, but I really think it's a work of art.

I'm playing it, and having a grand old time. It's really fun. My only gripe so far is that you can't use buttons to get through dialogue. Otherwise, I love that it uses all of the features of the DS. Very cool.
