I'm having a North American moment Ever have these moments when you realize just how good you have it and how ridiculous it is for you to upset over some trifle? Here's mine. A few months back I found a pair of lust-worthy slippers online.[More:] They were expensive, so I thought I would wait until I could better afford them. Now that the Canadian dollar at par with the U.S. dollar, it seemed like a good time to order them, and I looked them up, only to find the company has stopped making them in the colour I wanted. You know you're spoiled in terms of material comfort when you find yourself put out that Daniel Green doesn't make velvet scuffs in celery any more.
The place you linked to in your AskMe about slippers says they have some in stock. Didja check there? You do love your slippers!

I had one of those moments a couple of days ago when I upgraded to fios, and I had to wait more than a minute for an mp3 to download, and I was impatient about it because I wanted to go make some tea. To think that only a couple of years ago I had Prodigy on dial-up and an mp3 took me half an hour to download...

Scratch that! They still do have them! Turns out I was looking at a very similar but slight different type of slipper, the Savanna II instead of the Savanna I.

Yes, iconomy. I love my slippers. And my boots.

And guess what, I feel another slipper-related thread coming on....

Those are gorgeous slippers and I need a new pair. Hmmm.

O! They carried these in a store called Little Luxuries in Madison, WI. I tried convincing myself that it would be completely fine to buy a pair that was 1 size too small because I loved them too. In the green as well :)

I successfully resisted, but gave in to yet another brown boot later that day, hehe.

Does anyone else call slippers "house shoes," or is that just me?

I realized when I said that out loud the other day that I've bypassed turning into my mother, in favor of turning into my grandmother.

I've heard them called "bedroom shoes" or "bedshoes". But I think "bedshoes" was for back in the day when houses weren't well heated so you basically wore a slipper-type things to bed.

The BF makes a very clear distinction between house shoes and slippers. The ones with soles on them, like shoes, are the house shoes. The ones that have just fabric on the bottom are slippers.

When I was in Germany, everone I met had a pair of Birkenstocks for house shoes. I found it kind of odd, because I've always thought of them as outside shoes.

That's funny - I had German roommates in college, and they all wore Birks around the house. I never realized they didn't wear them outside.
