Two MeTa-esque questions... The DaShiv/NYT meta thread is cracking me up. But it's brought up two questions — when was the first MeFi meet-up (and how did it come about) and what is the origin of WHAT. THE. FUCK. MATT? The MeFi wiki has revealed nothing.

I'll bet someone who reads MetaTalk all day will know the answer.

I believe the first meetup was:
a) not organized in MeTa*
b) someplace weird, like say Grand Rapids**
c) attended by two people and a plus one

I am open to the possibility of being 0 for 3 here.

* Don't think it was Meetup.com, either, it was just spontaneous/e-mail
** Neither the Bay Area nor NYC
