Love and Rockets were one of my favorite bands of the 1980s, for my money even surpassing Bauhaus, their previous incarnation. Some tunes inside...[More:]

L&R's best album was probably Earth Sun Moon, which also produced their first U.S. hit, "No New Tale To Tell." The rest of the album was uncharacteristically subtle for them, but provided plenty of earworms. Some favorites:

Mirror People
Here On Earth
Waiting For The Flood

I first became aware of L&R because of their previous album, Express, which had a kick-ass cover of "Ball Of Confusion" on it. The sort-of title track is also good.

Some of their hardest-rockin' songs came on the self-titled Love and Rockets album, including two that were apparently based on old blues tunes (so I've read):

**** (Jungle Law)
Bound For Hell

and the darkly glam Motorcycle, which has one of my favorite music videos ever.

And BTW, yes, the band named themselves after the comic series.
How do you like Tones on Tail?

The first time I saw The Hunger I thought Peter Murphy was Iggy Pop.

I've only heard one or two Tones on Tail songs, and I remember liking them, but not as much as I would eventually like L&R.

Peter Murphy as Iggy Pop? Heh... I don't think Iggy was ever that scrawny.

Huh, Earth, Sun Moon is the one L&R album I almost never listen to anymore. But Sweet FA absolutely knocked my socks off.

not a big tones on tail fan, but in the rare occasion that i actually ended up in a dance club when i was younger, "go" (or should that be spelled "GO!") was one of maybe three songs guaranteed to get this non-dancer out on the floor doing the "white-man's overbite".

I was more of a Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven and Express guy. I wore the grooves out on Express. I remember seeing "Ying Yang the Flowerpot Man" on The Cutting Edge back in the day (anyone else remember The Cutting Edge??) and it was one of those first things that was interesting enough to drag me from my metal-y roots.
After Earth, Sun Moon though, it got kinda dull, IMO.

Kundalini Express is one of my favorite songs. I only have it on cassette though. Thanks, y'all! I will be downloading ALL of these when I get home!

"Dog End of a Day Gone By" was in rotation earlier today. It seemed to fit with the rainy, gray weather we're having.
