Neutral Milk Hotel I don't think there will ever be another NMH album...[More:] but Mangum wrote at least one song after In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, or maybe it was an outtake from that album. It's called "Little Birds," and it's a perfect capsule of everything that's great about NMH: the beautiful, surreal imagery and the intense, almost scary, emotional punch.

Here's one more song that I think dates from the On Avery Island era:
"Ferris Wheel On Fire"
For fans of NMH, I recommend this little live EP I picked up a few years back. The sound is way stripped-down (it's just Jeff Mangum playing acoustic), but there's some good stuff on it. And because it was recorded shortly before the release of Aeroplane, you get to hear early versions of some of those songs, including a very raw rendition of "Oh Comely" that will floor you.

Agreed, Atom Eyes- that is a freakin' awesome EP. The cover of "I Love How You Love Me" is sweet.

You can also pick up some mp3s of some great shows, which include the full band or just Jeff, at the Elephant 6 site (there are also a lot of other E6 and related bands available).

There's also this show with Chris Knox that is reportedly the last NMH show (includes cover of "Mother"). I've heard there's a version of Mangum doing "Nothing's Going to Happen" by The Tall Dwarfs somewhere, but I've never heard it. I like the Jittery Joe's set as well. Thanks for reminding me about that one.

Lastly, didn't he play drums on the new Apples in Stereo album?

I think he did, sleepy_pete.

I don't know of a NMH version of "Nothing's Going To Happen," but there's another Athens band called Elf Power (Jeff drums with them sometimes) who did it on their cover album of the same name.

Thanks, BP. I knew about that album, but now I'm thinking maybe I just always wanted to hear Mangum play that song. I think Laura from Elf Power plays on a few songs on the "this show" link of mine... it's been awhile since I listened to it (she's at least billed on the flier as playing the show). It's mainly just solo Mangum with electric guitar though.

I've never heard this song, and it's fantastically awesome. Thanks for the links.
