Technology Things I Hate Today 1. My work web filter. One minute I'll be able to read a thread, and then if someone swears too much in a comment the next minute I won't.→[More:]

2. The networked giant copier-printer-scanner thingy at work. It has decided that the last 2/3 of this one piece of paper is blank (it is not), and no matter how many times and different ways I try to scan it, it remains blank.

3. The document management system at work. It refuses to allow me to save a pdf file directly into a folder w/in the system. I have to save it to my desktop, then drag it over to the folder in the system.

4. Google reader. It hates Jezebel.com's feed for some reason and shows I have unread items yet won't let me see them.

5. Super Saver Shipping. Yes, I'm a cheap bastard that doesn't want to pay shipping. But I also think it is kind of unreasonable for a few in-stock items to take 2 weeks to get here.

6. (Related) USPS package tracking. 3:33 am arrival scan, yeah right.

The interface for Comcast's digital cable. I don't have time to list all of its crimes against GUI design but I never fail to get frustrated with it just trying to watch TV.

I totally agree with octothorpe. The menus, the sub-menus (and you never know where to find anything or what stupid category they've tucked it into), the lack of search, the 'back to previous screen' that only works sometimes and not others...can't stand it.

The number of times per day I have to scream at someone "GET OFF THE GODDAM PHONE AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!" while beating them with the palm of my hand.

Or rather, the number of times per day I *think* about doing this.

The new version of our corporate SOE that stops me from installing the Analysis ToolPak in Excel. How the fuck am I supposed to work out how many working days between dates if I can't use the NETWORKDAYS function? Who the fuck decided that this function needed an add-on to work anyway?

Voicemail systems. (1) They all have recently configured their menus. (2) Are there really poor souls who are so familiar with voicemail systems that they have to be reminded to pay attention?
