House MD question. (possible spoilers)→[More:]
Just saw the season premier after not having followed the show for a long time.
What happened to his team?!? Where dey go? Why dey go? What dat do?
AARGFH! taped it to watch at weekend (it's OK about the spoliers, I hate surprises and I have a very delicate constitution, I think I just might have swooned) Goes scurrying to teh internets to find out...
House fired Chase. Foreman quit because he felt House's cynicism and misanthopic ways were rubbing off on him too much. Cameron quit to go be with Chase.
All of these characters are still on the show and will eventually reappear, this is just the usual "beginning of the season" gambit to make people interested.
I only catch it occasionally, because I can never remember when it comes on. I have no idea what season we're seeing... or basically anything. The last few episodes I saw were about
1) New(?) big boss guy insisting he fire one of his staff, for reasons I couldn't quite make out. Getting pay cuts across the board for all members of the team to make up one salary wouldn't do - he demands someone be fired. I don't know what happened there.
2) What? Suddenly House has had surgery, his leg's okay, he's doing skateboard tricks, acting nice to patients and not taking drugs. BUT then he decides, no, his leg still hurts, and he takes drugs. End scene. I don't know how that turns out.
For #1, you're talking about s01e17.
Cameron quits at the end of the episode to save House from having to pick. But House has still pissed off Vogler too much (he humiliates him with a very unflattering speech) and in the next ep he insists on firing House anyway, which requires board approval since House has tenure. Vogler thretens Wilson for his vote but Wilson sticks up for House, losing his spot on the board (and he resigns because that lets him save face.) Meanwhile Vogler convenes the board again to try to vote House out another time, and this time Cuddy puts her job on the line for House after seeing him work his magic and save lives. The board sees this and realizes that losing Wilson and Cuddy would be a bad thing, and that having this guy in control is bad news since he's a businessman and control freak that bought his way in, not a doctor. They vote Vogler out and everybody returns, however House has to beg Cameron to come back and she ends up extracting a date out of him.
For #2, you're talking about the season 3 opener, which picked up at the end of the s2 cliffhanger finale ending where House had been shot by a disgruntled patient. While he's under for repair of the bulletholes he requests an experimental ketamine treatment which is supposed to do something to allow his nerves to regenerate. The opening of s3 he's back after two months of rehab with apparent full use of his leg and no pain. But the treatment was apparently temporary as the pain slowly returns, partly due to the fact that Cuddy and Wilson conspire to instill some humility and self-doubt in him by hiding the fact that one of his hair brain theories that was based purely on conjecture turned out to be correct.
Yes, he's right back to the cane and vicodin shortly into s3. In fact one of the main arcs of s3 is his vicodin abuse and how he breaks the law to get high by forging prescriptions. He gains a persistent enemy when he mistreats a cop in the clinic, who makes it a personal vendetta to take House down.
