I've never seen anything to indicate that this was the case, tog, but I had often wondered about it myself.

It made my ears hurt.

This has always seemed like the definitive "Don't do it" response to me, which is why I've always avoided MuFi. It'd be interesting to play around with it if you could incorporate samples or if mash-ups were kosher, but I'd assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that they were not.

It's not encouraged. I talked to Manitoba a little about that one, because I figure Music can (like the rest of Mefi) usually handle the occasional transgression from the norms for something pretty cool, and that one was pretty cool.

Sampling, covers—both a little touchy, though barring that direct reply from Matt that you link, he tends to be pretty chill and Ah What The Heck on stuff that isn't crazy visible or getting out of hand. I wouldn't really be cool with a big rash of mashups on Music, but that one by it's lonesome isn't really hurting anyone.

Anyway, it's my understanding that "hey, complaint/etc re: Metafilter" is kinda frowned upon on Metachat, so I'd say let's nix this here so as not to cause headaches for the mecha mods. togdon, If you want to try and get an answer, you might consider emailing Matt or starting a thread in the grey.

oops, sorry - didn't mean to cause a copyright controversy - I have never heard this Japanese style jazz before and think it sounded great!
