Cheap vacation. Like a lot of folks around here, I recently resigned my hell job. Now I'd like to do the perfectly logical thing for an unemployed person to do and take a trip.[More:]

I'd love to bum around Europe a bit, but I don't think I can swing that kind of a trip. Canada is acceptable, as is Mexico as is Central and South America.

Yes, I am crazy.

Any suggestions?
Bay of Fundy. But soon, as it'll be getting much darker and colder that far north, in a few weeks.

Not a bad suggestion, paul. I have a vague, plesant memory of a trip there about this time of year, 20 years ago with my parents.

I like the sound of this place.

Bay of Fundy looks fun.

I want to go to Costa Rica or Belize or Santa Fe, NM. If you go, tell me how it went. :)

Cheaper than Costa Rica or (I think)Belize, you may consider Roatan. Honduras is ridiculously economical to travel too, and the Bay Islands are probably the safest (and most beautiful) place to go. I'm pretty sure you can get direct flights to Roatan from Houston nowadays, so at least you won't have to fly into Tegucigulpa.

I posted a bit about my trip to Honduras in this AskMe Question. Feel free to e-mail if you have questions (but bear in mind that this was 6 years ago and I, uh, no longer have contacts there).

My bay of fundy memory is the Brittanica Films educational movie about the tides.

Thanks guys. I'll take all of your suggestions to heart.

well I posted this in the thread above yours. Obviously I'm biassed towards this region, and I don't know your parameters, but a trip thru here and the Canyonlands doesn't seem like it'd be too expensive, or too shabby.

You should drive to Argentina. I'll bet you $5 that you'll have mad amounts of adventure on the way.
