No Internet for old memes [More:]Aside from the pun (Go Coen Bros., redeem yourself for Ladykillers!) this is a sort of serious question. Obviously with the internet, most of those memes are still out there, mouldering in disused discussion threads and posts. Every now and then I will stumble across something really old and get a chuckle out of it (Mr. T Ate My Balls, Bert is Evil, etc.*) or across something that makes me glad it is getting flushed down to the bottom of the Tubes.

What are your favorite memes gone by the wayside?

*Why I chuckle at those, I am not entirely sure, but probably because they are both so ludicrous... well, except for the Bert stuff, that could happen.
This is little off track, but one of my benchmarks for if someone has been on the net for awhile is whether the name Craig Shergold rings a bell. . .

Way (a few years) after this one came and went, I got a forwarded email from a new boss, sincerely asking that I participate/contribute. I had to tell him gently. . .

Craig Shergold. Now there's a name I haven't heard for many a year ...

I have had about half-a-dozen encounters with people forwarding the supposed request (well, there was one originally, but most versions you see are modified by someone else). In all but one instance, I have been unable to convince the person that Craig really doesn't want people doing this anymore. Even people who are told his brain cancer was treated successfully still think he wants a world record.

And the hospital spends money to handle the damn mail.

I KISS YOU!!!!!

And All Your Base Are Belong To Us. I still see references from time to time, but not nearly as many as there used to be.

I am guilty of still using "someone set up us the bomb" when the moment in the conversation seems right.

Hampsterdance was the first I recall. Sadly, the original site has been turned into a ridiculous community site, but the original dance has been preserved elsewhere.

Invisible Joe!

Another one I won't let die (and maybe this is less well known around the filters) is the Desu meme.

I suspect no one but ikkyu will remember this, but "Chip, are you there? It's me, Pup!" still cracks me up.

Here's Peanut Butter Jelly Time at the Air Force Academy.

My son was there and saw this live.

These memes, they vibrate?

I also remember a guy having a page about what he ate for lunch, every day.

It's commonplace now, but back then it had some irrelevant beauty.

Dancing Baby was the first I remember. Most old memes never die, though - MeFi keeps them alive.
