16 September 2007

This is a whining post I'm stuck in the Newark airport, waiting for a 6:20p flight.[More:]My flight was supposed to leave at 8.45, so I was up at 5.30 and didn't find out until I got to the check-in kiosk that it was cancelled and I was rebooked for a flight tomorrow. So I have three more hours to kill until I can even check in, and then another four before I can board.

Newark has Wifi but apparently it doesn't believe in electrical sockets, so I can't play Warcraft for seven hours. Instead I have Beowulf and holy crap I want to kill something.

I want to be home. I want my boyfriend. I'm so very tired of traveling, and I was really looking forward to getting home at noon and having a whole half-day of snugglage before bedtime. Instead it's going to be dead late before we get home, and I'm tired and cranky and whiiiiny.

Stupid American Airlines. Stupid Newark. HATES.
dude. that is serious suckage. no electrical sockets? none???

if there was anything worth seeing in newark, i'd suggest you leave the airport for a few hours and hang out. but ... nothing to see there.

(((hugs fuzzbean)))

Wow, that's a real drag. I hope you have smooth travels the rest of the way!

I hate the no-sockets-in-airports thing; I got the last outlet in the old terminal last time I was stuck at DCA. Now I'm one of those people who carries a squid in my laptop bag. It doesn't create an outlet, but it lets you use one when they're all tied up with phone chargers.

NOT A ONE. I have checked the posts and the walls and the cafes and EVERYTHING and there are no freaking power outlets anywhere. I hate Newark. Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.

Three hours in Newark? I hope you brought a gas mask.

From the air power wiki:

Inconvenient but possible: some of the departure lounges near the food court (e.g. C132-133) have outlets at the edge of the carpeting on the floor. Better, look for any gate that has no huge glass wall, and drag one of the seating units nearer to a power outlet in the outer wall. Gates like C80 have some outlets on the outer wall, halfway across the row of windows, concealed behind the seats.

Sometimes you can sit near one of the ticketcounters or storefronts and if the people are nice (or if you seem desperate enough) they'll let you plug in. Very uncomfortable.

Also look on the floor near some of the seating units inbetween gates - there are at least 2 available outlets at the beginning of the C3 terminal.

That sounds really unpleasant.

I was stuck in JFK for 6 hours last year. I feel your pain. Seriously. I didn't have a computer either. No chairs so I sat against a wall eating junk food & reading a book. And the whole time I was saying the same thing... I HATE AMERICAN AIRLINES.

My whine for the day: Tripped over my dog and scraped up the side of my left big toe something fierce about 3 days ago. IT HURTS. I stopped wearing a bandaid, hoping it would heal faster if I let the air get to it but it's killing me. I can't wear shoes. I'm not sure they're going to go for me wearing open toed shoes to work every day but if anything touches it I want to scream. Gaaaah. I'm limping around like a freak.

Miss lynnster, I don't know what you do for a job but maybe talk to your boss-type person and explain the situation?

Fuzzbean, that blows. Lo siento.

My whine: I'm wearing my retainer. It kinda hurts a bit. I popped three advil but they've yet to kick in. I've written down all my homework assignments for my classes but I feel like I'm forgetting something major, and I can't kick the feeling... I'm also worrying that I'm overestimating the amount of time I have to complete other assignments that aren't due tomorrow.

Very sucky indeed, fuzzbean, I hope it goes by quickly. I think it's the airports that suck more than the actual airlines. I spent 6 hours at LAX once with a book. No lappy at the time. Fortunately there were chairs.

Ow on the toe, miss lynnster. If it makes you feel any better, I fucked up my knee about 3 weeks ago doing windmills with my kettlebells. I quit the windmills but continued with the other drills & dropped to less workouts weekly to try to give it a chance to get better. No such luck and I really REALLY don't want to do the surgery thing. I haven't had anyone look at it. I don't want them to yell at me or tell me I need $10 million worth of slicing and dicing.

Update: w00t! Once you're through security (which you can only do four hours before your flight so I still had to spend six hours twiddlying thumbs) there are power sockets. And speedy net. I'm gonna go kill shit.

Also, everyone who's damaged: GET BETTER.

I've got some decent open toed shoes, but it's just that I'm working in a place that wants business dress. While people will be understanding I'm sure, it's not how they want me to look in front of their clients.

I hate this job though, so I'm not sure why I care sometimes.
