Women who keep getting hotter as they get older: Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore. Who else?
Rene Russo, Monica Bellucci, Annette Bening

Helen Mirren.

I think Diane Lane looks pretty good. And Judi Dench.

Famke Jansen.

Sofia Lauren, Raquel Welch, Catherine Deneuve - not "hotter" but differently hot, still hot, sizzling.

Much, much hotter: Nicole Kidman.

Judi Dench is an incredible actress, but I can't say she looks better now than she did in 1960.

My wife.

GS, thanks for that picture of Dame Judith. And, DanF, thanks for that answer.

I dunno, I think Judi Dench still looks pretty good. But I suppose if we're going on straight hotness alone, Demi Moore could be on this list.

Holly Hunter.

And all the other bunny ladies over the age of 35 that I've seen pictures of. DAMN do we hold up well!

Is mudpuppie over 35? Cause she's real pretty, too. But I think she's too young to count.
posted by jrossi4r 07 September | 10:23
jrossi4r: I definitely look better after 32 than I did before 32. We'll see what the 40's bring, when they come along.
posted by crush-onastick 07 September | 10:44
ooh! Thanks darling jrossi - but at this point I'm just pleased to be not-too-undignified, and less-floppy-than-some.

I mean, from what I can tell, thanks to her unrestrained fast-food habit I now have less cellulite (and more underwear) than Britney Spears, so I'm going with that, plus what-the-hell-happened-to-sharon-stone (who I think is younger than me?) as my feel-good-by-cruel-comparison uplifting thought of the day. :)

true but quite astonishing bit of totally coincidental trivia: I'm actually listening to "Look and Feel Years Younger" from Brad Sucks at this very moment, entirely randomly. via the meta thread.
posted by taz 07 September | 10:46
SharonStoneOMG! She made the Baby Jeebus cry!

I definitely look much better now than when I was drinking. I wish my tits weren't heading south and my arse was not made of jelly but apart from that I'm pretty content with myself. At least, until next time I see my sister, then all the old insecurities kick in.
posted by essexjan 07 September | 11:33
Not sure what kind of black magic she's doing... but Elle MacPherson seems to be doing pretty well.

But really, Helen Mirren is my favorite. She's got a great stylist which helps, because she's always wearing the PERFECT colors and outfits for her. But I love that she shows that you can be talented & confident & hot AT YOUR AGE, that by embracing who you are people will respond & respect you for it. She's one of the few actresses who really shows you can look truly great without surgically attempting to look like women half your age. That's really inspiring to me. Love it. Plus she's got a really cheeky sense of humor... I love it when women have that "what the Hell, I'm too old to care about being prim" kind of attitude.

On the other hand, I don't think Nicole Kidman's looking so great right now. She's had too much botox & collagen.
posted by miss lynnster 07 September | 11:39
Aw, I won't be 35 for another year and some, but thanks for the compliments!

My mom gets more beautiful to me as she ages.

And yeah, I'd totally do Helen Mirren.
posted by Specklet 07 September | 11:51
BZZZZT!!!

Essexjan, you're so incredibly WRONG about that with your sister. I don't want to say much, because I'm not going to dis someone's sister, but you look a million times better. You insane thing.

And, really, what did happen to Sharon Stone. She looks botoxed and suctioned to within an inch of her life. She really is someone who for 20 years kept looking better, and then so much better than that original blah-boring-barbie-doll look she started from... but now, apparently, she's gone completely off the rails.

I saw her in some film where she played a maybe-40ish wife of an upper-class Brit who became a soviet spy, in which she was brunette and incredibly stunning. Unfortunately, her acting totally sucked. She seemed like she was so high she was going to keel over any minute.

on preview: omg, nicole. Fuck.
posted by taz 07 September | 11:52
OMG sharon stone, what happened??
She looks like the crazy meth homeless lady who asks for cigarettes outside the shop on my corner!!

and agreeing with taz on the overall creepiness of the botox and so forth. My landlady does that, and it's so bizarre looking. I mean, she didn't have botched or bad surgery, but it's this clearly 50-something woman with a smooth forehead and perky boobs, but old lady hands and neck. It's creepy.

I don't know if I would say Sophia Loren is hotter... I mean, she could still stop traffic, but back in her youth I bet she could cause a ten car pile up with fatalities just by dropping her newspaper.

As for me... I plan to look much better in my 30s than I do in my 20s. I'm joining the gym today, for one. And want to at least be in decent enough shape to be willing to wear a bathing suit in front of my friends by next summer. I've decided that I'm not going to turn 30 with this much extra weight, which gives me a bit over a year and a half to fix it.
posted by kellydamnit 07 September | 12:21
Damn, Specks. I didn't mean to prematurely age you! For some reason, I thought you were my age. I hope no one else on that list is a youngster.

And crush, I didn't get to access the pictures of you in the potentially slutty dress...but according to the other people who posted in that thread you're lookin' good, good lookin'!

I'm sure iconomy is stunning, too, but she's camera shy like me.
posted by jrossi4r 07 September | 12:22
No, I agree with you, kellydamnit; sophia was too beautiful to bear when she was young - that whole group in my first paragraph were not "hotter" but just amazingly hot and lovely as they aged. Nicole was the one who thought actually got hotter, because I thought she was really not-so-attractive when she first presented on my radar (and my husband also felt the same), but with age, confidence, fame, and really fabulous plastic surgery, she was incredible for a while there.
posted by taz 07 September | 12:30
taz: I concur in re: Kidman. Also, that's why I offered up Famke, who was arresting when young, but is amazing now.
posted by crush-onastick 07 September | 12:34
Yeah, I agree about Kidman as well.
I think the hair helped, too. That spiral perm she was rockin for a while was a bit too much for her delicate features.
posted by kellydamnit 07 September | 12:40
Marissa Tomei. And seconding Diane Lane and Holly Hunter and Katherine Keener.
posted by rainbaby 07 September | 12:44
Hmm. I recently wrote a review of Dead Calm, mentioning in passing that the rough ruddy charms of young Nicole Kidman defy the sleek, blank, Hollywoodized sculpture she's become.

The Clearing, a so--so movie with some fantastic acting, includes a scene of Helen Mirren swimming. Like, in a swimsuit, obviously without benefit of foundation garments or tricky film wardrobing magic. Whoa. She's glorious.

It's too broad of an age group, really. Do you want me to name women in their sixties who look good or women around 35-40 who look good?

I think that almost everyone in showbiz looks pretty good at 40 these days...

*shrug* I'll try and do a spread:

Kate Beckinsale, 34

Thandie Newton, 35

Natascha McElhone, 35

Christy Turlington, 38

Laura Dern, 40

Cindy Crawford, 41

Halle Berry, 41

Greta Scacchi, 47

Frances McDormand, 50

Geena Davis, 51

Iman, 52

Isabella Rossellini, 55

(I ran out of time... more later)

But anyway, where's the Jodie Foster love?

Also, Julie Andrews.

I have been meh towards Foster ever since I read a quote about her complaining that she had to take her kids to Disneyland in the morning, before it opened to the general public, because of her celebrity. I would think that having Disneyland to myself, or with a cadre of follow celebs, would be somewhat less troublesome than a sharp stick in the eye.

Before that, one of my catch phrases, when asked why I did this or that, was "in order to impress Jodie Foster."

This was taken yesterday. What. The. Hell. The Picture of Dorian Gray, anyone? I need the name of her surgeon.

mud, no way are you over 35?? I thought you were still a young'un. Jodie Foster still has it, yep. Great face. I was thinking about Julie Andrews just last night, and how gorgeous she still is. She's the one that inspired this post.

I knew that actor when I lived in LA... it was the Jim Piddock movie "A Different Loyalty," right? Everything I heard about her behavior during the making of that film made it pretty clear to me that Sharon Stone is certifiably insane.

Jodie Foster's secret is pilates. She's amazing at it.

I have always thought that both Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard are sex-on-wheels.

They still are.

You don't believe me? Ask my husband. ;-)
posted by bunnyfire 07 September | 14:56
that's it, miss lynnster. She seemed totally out of it. But, dahling, she looked maaaahvelous.

I love Jodie Foster. Always have, always will. She's lovely because she's lovely, but also because she's much more than that.

Must be all the tantrums.

Not revealing.

And a hearty seconding of Tilda Swinton. And firsting of Mary-Louise Parker.

Halle Berry too.

What the hell, MetaChat? No mention of Salma Hayek? FAIL.
posted by eamondaly 07 September | 15:52
I just don't think of Salma Hayek as getting older. How old is she? She's like the mudpuppie of the celeb set, I guess.

Cassandra Wilson.

Salma Hayek looks young for her age. However, she seems even younger still because her husband is aging so very, very poorly.
posted by kellydamnit 07 September | 15:58
This thread is useless without a picture of Selma Hayek's husband because I have no clue who he is.
posted by essexjan 07 September | 16:04
Salma Hayek is older than I am! I had no idea!

In unrelated news, Winona Ryder has already started taking years off her birthdate.

Oooo that lady, too. You know...that lady.

*bangs head on desk*
posted by iconomy 07 September | 17:25
Yeah, her! I know her, ico!

Also, Mary Louise Parker's smile makes my heart go pitty pat. Those little wrinkles at the corner of her dark, dark eyes...
posted by Specklet 07 September | 17:29
Salma Hayek is the Bette Davis of Mexico.

Well not quite but she's been around in Mx. forever, it seems.
posted by danf 07 September | 17:55
You know, I mentally confused her with Catherine Zeta Jones. It's the long dark hair, I think.

Although she is another looks young super hot type. Moreso when next to the poorly aging Michael Douglas.
posted by kellydamnit 07 September | 17:59
Lena Horne...that lady!
posted by iconomy 07 September | 18:31
Tina Turner.
posted by deborah 07 September | 19:28
kellydamnit - Michael Douglas is 25 years older than Catherine Zeta-Jones. He's 62 and she's 37. I don't think he looks too bad for 62 (and she definitely looks good for any age!)

Salma Hayek, 41, is nearly a dwarf and therefore was not listed previously.

Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
To live

They got little hands
And little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Round here

Short People are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's A Wonderful World)

Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
To love

They got little baby legs
And they stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
'Round here

Her husband, François-Henri Pinault, is a mere 45.

I agree with many of the above. Just because she's not listed yet and is someone who never entered my consciousness as being hot until the last 5-7 years: Sissy Spacek.
