Probably. There are some surfers who travel the world looking for storms that produce waves of unimaginable size. There was a National Geographic special on this was was absofuckinglutely amazing to watch. Scary as hell, but beautiful.

This is Dave Kalama riding a wave in Maui's "Jaws" swells, just to give you an idea of how big we're talking here.

It looks like, from the swell direction, that there might be a nice little tube to ride inside that breakwater. And the water does not look lethally shallow there. If it is a river mouth or something, it might form up, break, then back off (a lot of people up here in OR surf river mouths. . it's a very forgiving wave if the Great Whites are not around). Might be a fun ride.

No, they are weighing down Godzilla's head, so he doesn't rise out of the water and destroy Tokyo.

I think I saw that, or at least one of those specials, very cool The one I saw also had Laird Hamilton in it, and that guy is a madman. There is a bit in Endless Summer 2* where he talks about paddling on a longboard to Corsica (I think it was that, something Mediterranean anyway) and he made a slight error, reading something as kilometers when it was actually nautical miles.

*Not a surfer, but am fascinated by people who can do it well.

There is a line that some people draw about being towed in.

Well for starters, I do not have the skill, conditioning, or courage (and I don't know anyone who owns a jetski) to get towed into these monsters.

But a lot of surfers feel that it's not surfing unless you paddle in. They refer to the jetskis as "smokers" and frown upon them.

I can see both sides. The huge waves would never get ridden, if it were not for tow-ins. But the machines are also mightily polluting.
