I'm with you on this. I am not really a sci-fi fan, but Blade Runner is one of my favorite films. (Gattaca is another.) I'm a huge fan of J.G. Ballard, too- to the point you might say he helped shape my outlook on life- but Cronenberg's Crash didn't really work for me. (And I like Cronenberg, a lot...)
Blade Runner, though... I'll be there when it plays in Atlanta. I saw that 90's director cut in the theater about a dozen times, because I didn't know if I'd ever be able to see it on the big screen again... I saw it on its initial release and was blown away by it, but at the age of 16, I was more freaked out by it than anything.. I'd like to say I knew how groundbreaking it was, but I really didn't.
