Ann-Margaret : "Champagne" from Tommy - a self-contained vignette by Ken Russell in one of his madder moments. I so envy any of you who see this now for the first time. spoilers i guess
Uncle Ernie - one of Russell's subtler moments

I bet an enterprising soul could piece together most of the movie.

We're going to be seeing "Tommy" (also "Fast Times at Ridgemont High") tomorrow night at the drive in theater during Drive Invasion 2007!

Man, Tommy weirded me the Hell out when I saw it.

Fast Times though... now we're talking. That was actually written about San Diego and came out right when I was in high school so it was a big part of our lives back then. Andy Rathbone, the guy Cameron Crowe based Mark "the Rat" Ratner on, married an old friend of mine. He became good friends with Cameron Crowe when Cameron was pretending to be a high school student, and then the guy wrote a book about all of his private stuff. He completely devastated & I remember him teling me how used and betrayed he felt. He almost sued, but he was a big fan of Heart & so apparently Cameron Crowe got Nancy Wilson (his wife) to autograph a guitar for him instead or something. It's so easy to buy off a teenager...

I loved that movie. Dude, that was my skull.

Tommy's mom was may have made the wrong decision leaving the kid with uncle Ernie, but at least she picked the right champagne, Veuve Clicquot.

Dom Perignon may have invented it, but his had all kind of cloudy sediment in the bottom. The veuve (widow) was pretty damn clever to figure out how to freeze the necks of the bottle upside down in blocks of ice, and allow just enough of the frozen plug to push out and then lop off the sediment and recap.

Love the label, too.

Watching this at 3AM in one of the common lounges of my dorm in college, one of my friends turned to another and said, emphatically, "THAT is a MILF," in explanation of an earlier conversation. I hastened to remind them both that the movie was filmed decades ago, rendering her soundly in "GMILF" territory for those who dare to venture there.
