eyebrow shaping for guyz!1 Follow up on this
[More:]
So my "trusted female friend" says,

Well, I say go to a sytlist (usually salon's and places like that have them or can refer you) bring a picture of what you want it to look like. Have them wax it. See if you like how it was done, don't over due it, because you want it to look natural. If you don't like it, let it grow out and just tweeze the areas.
First start tweezing the "strays" and just go from there. If you go online you can find the best "shape" for your face. It's just angles. Like take a pencil and angle it from the tip of your nose to the outside of your eye lids, then move it from from the outter edge of your cornea and that is where your arch is, though you don't want to make it over obvoious. the eyebrow should end where your edge of the eye ends.

Er I have no idea what this means. Since I've decided to use tweezers rather than a salon, I just want to know what to pluck?

In terms of what I want to fix--they come too close together and are way too, like, thick as they do so. Instinctively I'd try to turn them into a point rather than a blunt shape as they near the nose (so, plucking out the bottom of most of the eyebrow.) Does that work?

Sorry about being so paranoid about a wee issue, just want to make sure I know what I'm doing in case the stuff doesn't grow back quick. HALP A BROTHA OUT.
Don't you live on a college campus? If so, you might want to find someone with experience to do it for you.

TPS: eh that strikes me as overdoing it. "Hey by the way, will you tweeze my eyebrows?" I'd rather just figure it out. I'm a private sort of guy in general...

Don't pay any attention to the pencil/face thing - you basically want to keep your same shape and area, but make your eyebrows look less like they're taking over your face, right? It sounds like you have bushy eyebrows with a little unibrow action going on. You're right - pluck from underneath and in the middle. Although I have to say, I would go to a stylist for the initial shaping....makes life so much easier. You wouldn't believe. I know, I know....you're private. But think about it.

And of course, there are a couple of vids on youtube that show the basics. Just keep in mind that women like a different look than guys do, generally. Don't end up looking like Jesse Metcalf - he has overmanicured girly brows. Be like a good carpenter - measure twice, cut once. Or in this case, think twice, pluck once. And underdo it - you can always come back for more hairs later.

Start by plucking anything that's "away" from your eyebrow. Five hairs noticeably lower than the arch? get rid of them. A clump of hairs squarely between the eyes? get rid of em. Stray hairs winging off toward your temples? get rid of em. Invest in eyebrow scissors as well and trim any hair that's noticeably longer than the rest.

But really, your best best is going to a full service salon for your next haircut and asking to get your browline "cleaned up" instead of shaped and then just start plucking the new hairs as they come back in.

Okay. You're a guy - stop looking at what girls do for their eyebrows. You're not suppose to copy them (unless you want to be emo then do copy them and ignore everything I'm going to say).

This is your goal for eyebrows. You want to have 2 of them and they want to look neat, not tailored. You want to look like you actually look in the mirror once a week and that you actually give a crap on how you look.

If you are using tweezers, do the following: Take your index finger and run it along the size of your nose up past the eyebrow ridge. Hold your finger so that it is covering up your nose's arch and the eyebrow. Any hair underneath your finger should be removed. Do this for both sides. Clean up all the hair in between the two eyebrows.

Now, examine the area right next to where you just plucked. Do you see a slight rounded edge? If not, pluck (and do this slowly) from the very very top down. Pluck one hair, take a look, pluck another. Take a steap back to give youself perspective. Does it look okay? If yes, STOP.

Now, what about the rest of the eyebrow? Well, there's a good chance you won't have to do anything but if you must (because your eyebrows are 10 inches thick and look like you have a lawn of crab grass growing on your face), feel for the ridge line over your eye. Do you see any stray browhairs underneath the ridge? Remove those. Do you see any browhairs that are way too far above the ridge? Remvoe those. Then, work your way down until you have a nice full and clean looking bushel of hair over your eyes.

You really shouldn't need to do too much. You'll need to keep replucking every 3 or 4 days but you'll get use to it. Add a "check eyebrows" routine when you brush your teeth before bedtime and you'll be good to go.

Wow. I had no idea that any men did anything about/to their eyebrows. It's really all I can do to remember to shower daily and shave every couple of days. Sometimes I comb my hair.

Yeah, guys do stuff to their eyebrows. I'm glad I'm not alone.

I am so not looking forward to getting truly old.

I'm already turning into Thufir Hawat from Lynch's version of Dune. I've had 2" long eyebrow hairs already. They'll hide by being sneaky and laying flat among the other hairs, but occasionally will pop out when least expected.

I'm not quite a full-blown unibrow. Yet.

While these fat, furry catapillars are wonderful for keeping the sun, dirt, rain and sweat out of my delicately whiny baby blue eyes - they're freakishly mobile and prone to excessive growth.

I'll knock 'em back occasionally by free-handing a hairclipper over them to clean up longer strays and just reduce the altitude a bit. I'll pluck the rest that stray too far from the brow. Like, halfway up my freakin' forehead.

I'll refrain from detailing the probiscoidal hirsuteness excessively - but I could grow dreadlocks in my nose. And I have to pluck the outside of it, else it begins to resemble an echidna's butt.

Nope, don't make them into points. You want to keep the natural shape of your eyebrow, just tidy them a bit. So, yeah, what everyone else said.

And, I REALLY recommend you have it done by a professional the first time, and ask them to tell you what they're doing and why. Then, you just have do a little maintenance.

I got mine done at Macy's last Friday at the Lancome counter. There was a young guy with a near monobrow waiting in the chair next to me to go after me. In my experience the eyebrow ladies seem used to male clients and like them. He made mention of his girlfriend so if that helps you feel more comfortable go for it. Good luck and whether you do it yourself with styxno's excellent advice or with a professional, less is more. When it's done well, you will be surprised at how much of a positive impact it has on you face's appearance. People may tell you that you look nice, for example, and not realize that it's your eyebrows that have changed.

Don't feel embarrassed about having a pro do it first and then just working on maintaining the stray hairs yourself.

One cultural viewpoint - eyebrow grooming here in Japan is considered as important as facial hair grooming - men's magazines often give tips and you can get several types of eyebrow grooming kits.

Another tip if they are getting too bushy - using a small comb (like an eyelash/eyebrow brush) you can lift the hair away from your face and trim it slightly.
