Cleaning out the attic I've found an old box that must have been moved around a lot and has remained sealed for, I don't know, forever. It's got old t-shirts and stuff from around 1990-1992 (the Clinton 92 t-shirt gave it away); it's mostly from the Gap. I'm very impressed at how the t-shirts, ALL of them made in the USA, are so much better made than the current sweatshop material they sell at the Gap, a store I haven't been patronizing in, like, ages. The Clinton t-shirt and the Georgetown t-shirt are both made in the USA, too.
The stuff they sell now is sorta crap, t'is true. Someone gave me a $100 gift cert for Christmas and I still haven't spent it, and it isn't for lack of trying. I seriously can't find one thing I like. I'll probably end up buying their jeans with it.

I just hate their size inconsistancy. One item may fit, another of the same size doesn't.

Also, it's funny how their early commercials influenced what we call the store. Everyone calls it The Gap, even though it's just Gap. In the *70s their tv commericals all commanded us to "fall into the Gap", and the 'The' stuck. No one says the Bloomingdales or the Macy's or the Neiman-Marcus.

*Yeah, I'm old. And when I'm a senior I'm going to have lots and lots of sex, just to spite dersins.

(but seriously, the cotton on those t-shirts is just so much nicer; the stitching, too)

Please note that the text of the post in question specified "more sex than you want to think about," not "more sex than I want to think about."

I'm just sayin'....

iconomy, it really did used to be called "The Gap", as in generation gap. They dropped the article when they got all corporate.

And as far as your other bit, it's a longstanding Chicagoese quirk to say "the Jewel", as in "I gotta run down to the Jewel and get some milk." ;-)

Huh. I had no idea about the gap - that's really interesting. Thanks for the visual aid!
