This is an awesome thread. If you have something really awesome that you were waiting for a good reason to post, I've got one inside.[More:]

I went back into work today and the boss told me not to work out the notice. She invented some work reasons (had just gotten fine reviews on every aspect of my work two weeks before, although she was concerned that I seemed unhappy.)

Angry, devalued, etc. doesn't even begin to describe how I feel.

But this world

What I want from you guys is a bunch of awesome. Post it here and I'll read it and enjoy it. And so will you, and so will many other people. I want something good to come of this.

Your awesome or someone else's is fine.
oh fuck. missing sentence:

But this world doesn't let people get justice for these petty little evils, so I am somehow supposed to accept this.

I'll think of something awesome soon... or try to :] - but if I were you, I'd be so glad I didn't have to work out the month. I think that would have been really emotionally gruelling. And, as far as I know, it's pretty typical that once people resign, most of the time the co. says they don't need to work out their notice.

I'm sure she was insensitive about it (whether she meant to be, or not), but I say let the sadness out... and then start enjoying being OUT OF THERE. As in, "yay!"

I'll be playing guitar in front of 3000 people on Monday.

whenever I am coming down from a stressful event, what I like to do is walk around a big awesome city (Birmingham and London are good - don't you live in Glasgow? that's a big awesome city right there) and stop at places I like - i.e. avoid clothes shops and glitz but get lost in second-hand bookshops, sit in coffee shops with a newspaper, wander around getting lost.

so you could try and pick up a little bit of awesome that way. Hope you're feeling better soon, and it really does sound like you're better off without the job. Loads of jobs demand not very much of your attention, try to find one of those, for the time being at least.

I think the banner art on the musicisnotdead blog is pretty awesome. I love how colorful and cheery, and not very "Web 2.0" it is.

This is awesome because now that you don't have to work for the next while, you can actually take a bit of a break. You could think about the different career paths you were considering, or just relax. (You said earlier that you weren't even going to look for work until 2 weeks after your notice, now you have more time.) Your work environment sounded extremely stressful, and even though they meant well, their staff felt like crap.

I work in non-profit and sometimes it's so easy for bosses and staff to push well beyond their limits because of the passion for the work. It's no good, because then people burn out - then who will do the work? You made a good wise decision that was the right thing for you. Try to enjoy some of this new found time off and chill out if you can. You do deserve it.

LuxuriaMusic radio: Surf Music, Bossa Nova, Exotica, Space-Age Bachelor Pad, Jazz, Soft-Psych, Sunshine Pop, Wall of Sound, Latin, Go-Go, and Film & TV music of the past 50 years.

Cheery! (edited to add... er, well it has ads. so not totally awesome, but it's picking me up at the moment, nevertheless)

I'd forgotten about Luxuria! I used to love that station. Thanks, taz. :)

Awesomely awesome: Vietnamese Noodle Salads.

I make these all the time, and you know what? They're awesome!

Yeah, I bet she was a bitch about it, but sometimes it's really just a matter of convenience. It allows the getting-on-with-it and hiring process to continue more quickly. Don't take it personally. Geez, it's free time off! Luxuriate and enjoy!

Thanks for the awesome, guys.

I hope that I will be better in a few days.

The last time I resigned I had to give three months’ notice and was asked to work all of it (plus overtime). That was not awesome at all. What is awesome? Hammocks are awesome! The place I was staying on vacation the week before last there was a hammock under a chestnut tree, which was a fabulous place to lie back & forget about unawesome workaday stuff.

Fuck, man. I gave almost 4 weeks notice at my job and they're squeezing every bit of work out of me that they can. I'd love it if they just said 'go home'. Ah well, luxurious unemployment awaits.

Awesome cows. Apparently, this is a real photo. The company it comes from appears to be no longer in business, but from what I can tell, they sold nature photos on CDs. Love these loving moo-ers.

I don't know what the collective noun for otters is, but it has to be an awesomeness of otters.

Jan - The collective noun romp is used to refer to a group of otters.

A friend of mine just got cast as a swing in the national tour of High School Musical. This is a really big moment in his career (to be cast by one of the biggest casting agencies in the city, to know that they know who you are and they like you); I am so excited for him.

I'm confused about why you are unhappy. You hated this job and now you get to leave it sooner than you thought, right? Isn't that awesome?
posted by amro 22 August | 12:36
What good news Luminous Phenomena!

My cousin got married this weekend, and her brother seated me and my siblings next to him at the cousins' table. That was awesome.

Congratulations on quitting your job, Grace. Your boss was insensitive to you, but now you can move on. You have so many possibilities in front of you!

Awesome: the Radio Madrid/Heavy Usker podcast. Similar to LuxuriaMusic but more of an emphasis on bossa nova, go-go, Brazilian, Tropicalia, Latin jazz. It makes me happy while sitting at my desk doing repetitive tasks.

Great news, LP!

I'm freezing some awesome fresh [pitted] cherries so that when I can't get them at the store in a few weeks I can open the freezer and have yumminess!

LP, you just trumped the whole day of metachat posts! Hooray; I hope everything continues to go upwards.

LP! How awesome! I'm so happy to hear that!

My girl has developed an awesome obsession with ancient Egypt. She's drawing pictures of Tut and his wife in a boat on the Nile. She's declared herself "The Boy King" and has made her stuffed animals her subjects. She wants to know what Egyptian food tastes like. (I don't know!) Her curiosity about other cultures thrills and challenges me. It's really awesome.
